Desire Avenue

My sister sent the two series on DVD for Christmas and I have been watching them non-stop! It is simply the funniest, wickedest thing I've seen in a long while. I don't know if it's because of having worked in a hospital background many years ago that I find it so funny (and no it's nothing like Scrubs, which I also love but that does have a sense of reality) or if it's just the pure insanity of it. Anyone else seen this? I am trying to get my hands now on the Christmas Special which apparently is the last of the series. I love Sue White, she is insane

Green Wing was genius, really innovative and totally hysterical. It had a huge impact when it was first shown, and I think it will always stand out as unique. My personal favourite is Sue, the demented Scots personnel lady, who takes bizarre into whole new realms in her obsession with lovely ginger Mac. The clay sculpture and the lion baby.

I saw the odd bit of it first off,and it's great.Unfortunately watching the TV is not a strong point of mine,it involves far too much regularity,commitment and giving up of more interesting pursuits.
A friend has given us several videos of it,and embarrasingly we haven't got around to watching any of them They've joined a vast pile of things we 'ought to watch sometime'.

Oh you must, you must. Martin becoming a pimp and talking gangsta! Guy accidentally shagging his mother! Statham in bed with Boyce! Dwarf-killing! Cliffhanger endings - literally!

I love Sue White, especially when she is trying to kill Caroline and the bit at the staff auction where she finds out Mac is not up for the bidding

Sue White is truly one of the great comedy creations of all time, and the actress who played her must have had balls of steel to do some of the stuff required of her.

She even managed to bend space and time on one occasion as she walked past Mac in the corridor - everyone else was in 2005, but she appeared to have transported herself back to the 1940s to be a glamorous femme fatale, in black and white.

What a woman. Pray you never become the object of her affections!

Michelle Gomez who plays Sue White improvised most of her scenes and said in an interview she used it as an opportunity to exercise her madness, she's married to Jack Davenport interestingly!! Have you seen her in The Book Group? She plays a superb character in that, a very uptight (to start with) footballers wife.....

Oh I didn't know she was married to Jack Davenport - lucky woman! And a brilliantly talented one too, if most of what she did was improvised. I guess the credit for the character goes more to her than the writers, then.

I can't get the image of her playing with that clay sculpture of Mac out of my head.

Amazon UK has the Christmas special available on DVD by the way, Daniel. Not sure how much it would cost to send to Oz, though. But Joanna and Statham on the run in a Badlands-style suicidal crime spree is worth every penny.
