As a teenager in the seventies,my fave band was Wings and I've continued to be a big Wings/Beatles/McCartney fan ever since.

Anyway, Paul McCartney is 65 today so Happy Birthday to Macca.
He is now officially an Old Age pensioner and is entitled to his free bus-pass. I wonder if he'll bother to his pass?

He could buy the entire UK bus fleet several times over.
Congrats to Macca.Can't say I've liked much he did since he lost the sharp lemon of Lennon to add pungency to his cosiness,but,yes,the odd Wings thing was OK.
I hear the new album is crap

I was always more of a Lennon girl, but McCartney has come up with some stunningly gorgeous melodies over the years.

He's a nice bloke too, according to my boss. Back in the 60s she and her teenage friends, all from St. John's Wood, used to see him quite frequently on his way to and from Abbey Road. One time they waylaid him for autographs, only to find no-one had a pen handy. My boss asked him to hang on while they ran over the road to the block of flats they lived in and got one. And he did.

Another day, they were all sitting on the wall outiside Abbey Road when a Rolls carrying John Lennon came down the road. My boss was wearing a pair of then highly-fashionable black and white checked trousers. Lennon stopped the car, leaned out and enquired if she fancied a game of draughts.

I remember seeing a programme about George Harrison a few years back (George was my favourite when I was a kid),and in the middle of an interview an awed fan stepped up and asked George for his autograph.
'Sure' said George,with a grin ' And while I'm about it shall I do the other three ? Might be worth something one day.'

I love that deadpan Scouse humour.

I wonder if Heather has sent Macca a birthday card.

Mediocre would be a better word,especially after the excellent 'Chaos And Creation In The Backyard' a couple of years back.

But the album 'sounds' crap though,mainly due to it being mastered so high that everything is slightly distorted.
The 'recording levels' on my cd player and never off the red.

Poor Macca, he's not exactly had the easiest time of it the past year or so though. He strikes me as one of those artists who does his best work in happy times.

She's got quite a fund of them, she met all four Beatles before she left home, and has all their autographs still. She and her pals were lucky living in that neck of the woods, I think they met quite a few of their musical heroes.

I've got a (purportedly) autographed copy of A Hard Day's Night (LP).I say purportedly because I can't be sure if the autos are genuine.Meanwhile the LP and cover are totally fucked
I've been saving it for a rainy day when the bailiffs are banging on my door.If they're not genuine,I'm totally fucked too

How would she go about getting them authenticated Rob, if she's interested in selling them? And what's the best way to sell them? She might be interested, once she hears how much they're worth.

If The Beatles signed the item(s) in front of her then they're authenticated already!
The problem is though is if they were signed out of sight, as they had several people who use to sign items on their behalf and it is very difficult to tell them apart.

Because of the amount of money involved,I would advise your boss to take them to any of the top London auction houses (Bonhams,Sotherbys etc) where they have experts in rock memorabilia on site who will authenticate them. And i think they'll do that free of charge as they'll obviously be hoping for your bosses custom.

Also,your boss could have them photocopied and send the copies to specialists like Tracks or Frasers. If they are satisfied that they are genuine they'll make an offer but of course the offer will only be about 30% of their real value.

But if the autographs are known to be genuine then your boss could put a 'buy it now' lot onto eBay or just auction them the normal way.

I should add that the condition of the signed item and the item its self will effect value. Any message with the signatures will add value.
Also four signatures on a single item will bve worth more than four seperate signatures.

I've just looked on eBay and seller Tracks have an auction going for the Beatles signatures from 1963 on a single page (with two other sigs on the back) and their starting price is £4200.

well,hang on to it Dave cos you never know,they may be genuine.
But do make sure your other half and son know about it otherwise if something happened to you suddenly, they might just bin it thinking that its worthless in that condition.

Thanks for the info Rob, I'll take that with me when I go back to work. I know the autographs are all separate because she met them individually, not together.

Maybe she got them to sign the same item seperately?

Oh you have a point, I'm assuming it's different items because she met them at different times, but maybe not. If she got them all to sign the same thing she'll be laughing.

I must ask her who else she's got, I know she and her friends met other pop stars of the day apart from The Beatles so chances are she has more signatures!
