Desire Avenue

Yesterday morning I was at Kate's place assembling a wardrobe for her whilst she'd gone out shopping with her daughter.
At 9.30am I heard a knock at the door and it was the Police ( not the Sting,Andy & Stewart variety though ).....I had to get out quickly because workmen had unearthed what was thought to be an unexploded war time bomb during work on a near by building site.

A long with all the other people in a half mile area around the site,I was evacuated up the road to a police cordon where traffic in the area were be re-directed.

There were police swarming everywhere, getting everyone away from the area. After a couple of hours had passed with no tell tale sound of an explosion I was getting bored and decided to meet up (mobiles are a wonderful thing) with Kate and daughter at a church hall that had been opened to especially to house people who were bored with standing about on street corners.
So wined and dined with tea,coffee and choccie biscuits ,we waited it out (along with the workmen who had found the bomb incidentally) until finally, at 1pm, we were told that the bomb had been x-rayed and it was considered safe.

Well,it would be wouldn't it as it turned out to be a piece of pipe.

Oh well, four hours after I'd been ooriginally evacuated, I was back at Kate's finishing off the wardrobe.

A bit of excitement then which was all over the local radio at the time and was briefly mentioned on the local news last night.

A tv film crew were in the area but I never saw them.
Pity really,had I been interviewed I would have got a plug in for Stina.

More than likely.

Like every thing about this nanny state that we have to live in*,it was complete overkill.
The supposed bomb was well away from us and behind a big block of flats so even if it was a bomb and had gone off, we were well shielded where we were. It just mucked up a mornings work for nothing.

* Heard on the radio only this morning that fish 'n' chip shops are no longer able to sell batter scraps because of health and safety issues.

Next thing you know,they'll be banning smoking in pubs.......oh,wait a aminute....they've already done that...

But your story of the bomb hoax reminds of an incident in Belfast a few weeks ago when a bunch of guys dressed as police and army arrived in a street and evacuated everyone from their houses,saying there was a bomb alert,and then proceeded to rob all the houses before disappearing... [pirate]
