Beauty And Crime is being released on Blue Note Records around June-July, I cannot wait!!!!

I've had the 99.9 album on a loop all week

Well,Norah Jones at least has a slight relationship to jazz...
I'm just surprised that Suzanne hasn't got a contract with anyone else.There must be queues of talented jazz singers who'd be more appropriate for the label.

Obviously they wanted her on their rosta, personally I don't see the problem.

Just because a label emerges from a genre, does not mean they have to stick to it, look at Warp Records, big electronica label now signing the likes of Gravenhurst, Maximo Park, Grizzly Bear, Battles...

I think Blue Note could be a very good thing for Suzanne Vega, let's face it she has absolutely nothing to prove to anyone.

Ow this is good news. But I hope that she'll change her sound. The last album was amazingly boring and sounding flat. But the days of Mitchell Froom are over in the world of Suzanne. He made her sound stunning.

I just hope it's gonna be a real good album again, I want to buy something of hers again after over 10 years...I loved her so much, I remember buying Solitude Standing in England, my first trip there alone, I had classes at Egham college...

I really like Songs In Red And Grey, which was certainly a musical return to older territory in comparison to the Froom albums, I particularly like Make Me Wonder, it's really quite sinister and brooding. I think it was a hard album for her to make considering it was a divorce album (always makes interesting work for artists when they divorce, I guess due to the mass of emotions felt due to the turmoil, Kirsty MacColl's Titanic Days is a superb Divorce album!)

Word is that Beauty And Crime has a more electronic edge to it than Songs In Red And Grey, though I don't think it'll be anything too radical. The artwork looks rather cool and very noir-ish hehe.

I hope she tours again with this album, I saw her live in Leeds back in 1997 when she was touring Nine Objects, and she was just brilliant, I'd love to see her again. I love how she doesn't wear shoes when she's on stage!!

I listened to Solitude Standing the other day after coming across a copy on CD for $2, my very very old vinyl copy is really worse for wear and I hadn't played it in a long time. I really loved hearing it again. I must get Days Of Open Hand on CD now, got that only on vinyl as well and that is probably getting pretty worn too hehe

I've had the lucky chance to hear the new album Beauty & Crime, it's superb and very much a reminder of ASCHE/MOAC for me. It's worth keeping an eye out for. It's very rhythmic and features beautiful guitar playing too.

Love this cover.

I heard the track 'Frank and Ava' on the radio one night last week and really liked it, very witty lyrics revolving around the infamous love affair between Mr. Sinatra and Ms. Gardner.

The album is getting mixed reviews on Amazon - not impressing the Froom fans, by the looks of it, but others love it. It's also only 34 minutes long apparently.

yep it is very very short, but then a lot of very good albums are very very short like Pink Moon by Nick Drake, TI by Stina, Dog Leap Stairs by Kathryn Williams....

I wish the Froom fans would get over themselves, it's actually Suzanne's career not her ex-husband/producers. As good as 9 Objects and 99.9, I also love Solitude and Songs In Red, it's Suzanne I love, not her production.

If you read the sleeve notes to her greatest hit's album, Retrospective, there is an interesting comment regarding the relationship between Froom and Vega after the recording of Women On The Teir, in that they felt it was as far as they could take the sound.

Also interesting is that the songs Rosemary and Book And A Cover, both Froom productions, for the Tried and True best of, sound more like what she did for Songs In Red And Grey!! I think maybe Froom gets a bit too much credit sometimes....

Beauty And Crime is a gorgeous album, well worth investigating, I've played it loads over the last two weeks and I must say it still has an ASCHE vibe to it.....

The track I heard was quite accoustic pop, I was going to ask in here which album it was from, cos I was expecting the new one to have a jazz/standards vibe, from the cover and the label.

I don't know any of Suzanne's previous stuff except the obvious ones, Luka and Tom's Diner (? Not sure if that's the correct title) and a track I heard on the radio quite a bit some years ago, 'Blood Makes Noise' which I really liked.

It's my library day tomorrow so I'll have a look and see if they've got any of her albums.
