And the title is quite appropriate for what happened to us. Indeed, zap your mind... and mine too .
Today I listened to the wonderful album "Revolution in Me" by Siobhan Donaghy. She used to be in the Sugababes and did the leadvocals on their hitsingle "Overload". During the promotion of the album she has left the band.
In 2004 she released her debut soloalbum. I love it very much.
It still has a poppy-sound but with more sharp edges. Be sure to hear songs like "Overrated" and "Twist of Fate"

Anyway, it's been a minimal-ambient-house-all-the-way-day so far - System 358's 'Chessa' followed by Loscil 'Triple Point'. Spacey, with just a deep kick drum to propel things forward. Sometimes.
Now playing "a grand don't come for free" by The Streets. Funny stuff; I'm absolutely not into hip hop, but I've never heard something at the same so UN-groovy in that genre and yet totally pleasant.

'chessa' actually has some... wait for it... beats. not many, and hardly groovy, but it's something. also there are some samples of classical instruments in there too. i kinda like 'force' (yer man's previous effort) more, but i think 'chessa' is going to make sense in the summer. it has a more summery feel.

let me qualify my last statement about 'chessa' - it starts of kinda bleak, a little like pan sonic lite, before thawing out half way through and getting summery. but this is all very relative terminology!
Today driving home from Utrecht to Dordrecht, I listened to Nikka Costa. (Everybody got their something) Not really spectacular, but will do in the car. Wondering if she ever released a cd afterwards. Before that album. she actually did, I think she was 11 or so.. I have this old compilation album with a track of her and a picture on it, where she looks very young. Have to locate that album to listen more carefull to the particular track.
For the Frenchies among us, or maybe wider, I'm listening with some effort a promo copy of "Intraveineuse" by Shane Cough, electro-punk, they call that, from France but sung in English. Hard, tough and everything but near unbearable so much they want to sound like dunno... shit, can't remember their name, an awful band who got huge success with some bad shouting and heavy guitars, I dislike them so much I can't remember their name... Ah, finally : Linkin' Park : puke!!!

Heard a good song from Shane Cough some years ago on a compilation... but been very deceived by their 1st one. So no surprise to me about the 2nd.
i am still listening to that nOUVELLE vAGUE...Bossa Nova chill-out covers of 12 punk songs. one song is standing out for me in particular....it's got rather personal significance for me but of course, may apply to the old boards which we all have some affection for...
