Time travel movie with a student travelling back in time to undo tragic events involving himself and his friends,only to create new tragic events which alter the present for the worse.

Interesting and entertaining film.....anyone here seen it?

i did and I just got the director's cut version of the movie which has an alternative end.

I guess this movie is a good start to understand the chaos theory

Alex,
its the "directors cut" dvd that i have.......complete with the "alternative endings" in the Special Features section.

Unfortunately,(as i understand it) the original "theatrical ending" isn't one of them.

Amongst the interviews in the Special Features,one female contributer (her name escapes me ) says the following which i really like.......

"Birth to death is a ride. By its very definition,unpredictable.
There are no guarantees,shit happens,curb balls get thrown at us.
Wonderful things happen.
And how we deal with it is who we are and who we become.
Thats the ride."

here there's a 2 dvd edition which includes on dvd1 the original version and on dvd2 the alternative one.

Assuming that the double dvd is region 2,i'm going to have to keep an eye open for it as i'd like to be able to compare the two versions.

Reading on-line comments,it seems there is a split verdict as to which version is best.

i liked the movie, since you really have to follow it well to keep track of what's going on and it's an interesting concept, just like in 'Memento' or 'Eternal Sunshine'. I should watch it again though, cause i was falling asleep a bit when i saw it

By the way i think 'Eternal Sunshine' deserves it's own thread. it's one of my favourites! (maybe i should start it myself then

)

A woefully inept film, badly acted and poorly directed. It should have been called "Dude, Where's My Memory?!?!"

90 or so minutes of my life I won't get back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want a decent film about time travel stick with Donnie Darko....

I do have "Donnie Darko" (on dvd) but i wasn't particularly impressed with it. Not a ptach on "The Butterfly Effect" imho.

But another decent time-travel film which i like is "Twelve Monkeys"....anyone seen that?

Twelve Monkey's isn't on my fav list either, although Time Bandits is just genius

I also like that Simpsons episode about time travel [crazy]

For me ,the Butterfly Effect is not really a movie about time travel but a movie about the butterfly effect (part of the chaos theory)

I liked Donnie Darko too, even if it's not really easy to understand everything in it.

12 monkeys is for sure a brilliant movie and one of the best Bruce Willis movie in my opinion.

Lacuna, the Simpsons episode you mentionned is where Homer kills a bug and give flu to some dinosaurs while he trevalled in time using is homemade machine in his garage?

Oh, the time-travel toaster! That is a great episode. That's the same one with the parody of The Shining, one of the best Simpsons moments ever, IMHO! [disguise] [:o]

it was in a special halloween Simpsons episode, which usually includes very great moments.

I'm a Simpsons fan since 1991, and I still enjoy to watch episodes after such a long time! As you can guess I bought the DVDs too

Yep I love the Treehouse Of Horror episodes!!

I love the episode where the teachers become cannibals hehe [evil] [rolling]

I adore the simpsons, but the latest episodes from 2004 have seemed to be lacking an edge, but the first 1-9 seasons are pure genuis [crazy]

Any news yet on season 4 of Family Guy, man I am dying for that too!!

Ah, Twelve Monkeys! I missed it at the cinema, but set the video for it when I was living with my parents. Unfortunately, my Dad decided to spend the night channel surfing, and you can only watch one cable channel at once. So that's what I recorded.

Well, no matter, I got it on video early February. I wonder where it could be now!? It isn't in the pile of largely unwatched DVDs in the drawer by my bed, anyway.

I wonder if I'm destined not to watch that film.

Donnie Darko's good, but not really about time travel. That is, the time travel conceit isn't what makes it good. My Sassy Girl has some time travel, and is of course one of the best films ever made, but it still isn't a time travel film.

I liked Memento. Missed it at the cinema because I didn't like the trailers, but the film itself is a good idea intelligently followed through. It still doesn't make logical sense, but you can't have everything. Definitely one for those who think there are no original films being made.
