food poisoning

i'm the lucky person who was food poisoned few days ago at a fast food and this afternoon i felt so bad i had to see the doctor again

now i need blood and urinal tests tomorrow...
damn why do restaurant owners don't really care about sanitation

anyway i'm not here to complain but i just want to know had food poisoning too in the past

Might not be down to poor sanitation though. It might be that what you were eating wasn't cooked properly.

i'm vegetarian so i'm supposed to be less affected by food poisoning mostly due to not very fresh meat; and my good old vegetables betrayed me

Well,I've never seen a rabbit with the guts ache so I suppose we can't really blame under cooked carrots this time.

Alex, being vegetarian is not really any protection against food poisoning - bugs like e.coli and salmonella can live in all kinds of food and drink, not just flesh. E.coli can be a problem in wine, for instance.

Cooked rice that's been left to cool uncovered, then warmed up again later can be a problem, as can milk, cheese, yogurt etc that hasn't been stored properly. A recent survey of supermarket lettuce here in the UK found food bugs present in alarming numbers, and one of our big chains has just been forced to clear its shelves of pre-packed salad because salmonella was found in it. A while ago the major confectionery producer Cadbury was forced to recall huge amounts of chocolate because of salmonella too.

Anyway, commiserations my friend, hope you feel better soon. And remember, it's better out than in.

Commiserations Alex.Maybe it was because it was fast food? Karma,man

I got food poisoning from uncovered etc food after doing some music for 'Emmerdale'.I can't think of that programme without my guts churning (and I've never watched it either).

A few months ago I got food poisoning in the canteen of the hospital where I work... The lukewarm shepard's pie, probably. I haven't eaten there since, all the more because they don't sell a single healthy thing... pie and fucking chips.. baked beans and greasy sausages... a miserable salad bar that sells out in 20 minutes, where everything tastes of bleach. Sandwiches in plastic that have not a single leaf of green in them. Huge racks of crisps and muffins and chocolate bars. Made all the worse by the fact that half the people look really ill anyway..

Please excuse the rant, sometimes I really dislike working in a hospital.

I've worked in one. I never ate in the canteen.

It never failed to surprise me how unhealthy the food was where I worked, for both patients and staff. Much of it looked quite disgusting, frankly, so god knows how it tasted/what it was doing to people's insides.

my uncle is working at a hosptial canteen and I think people are really lucky because he's such a good cooker !
the main problem in canteens is the kitchen crew, they don't really care about making healthy food they just want to cook basic stuff without creativity. They complain about the money they receive to cook but even with low budget we can have healthy food but it requires more time and more involvement.

This is exactly what I used to think as well, listening to the Catering Manager bemoaning the lack of money for 'decent food'. For what they pay out just for frozen meals, for instance, they could buy in fresh ingredients and make something really substantial. But it's the time required to do it, and the practical aspect of trying to feed hundreds of people within a short time frame.
