a restored version of Picnic on 2 discs was issued here in 2005 and a reissued 1 disc version is coming out here in australia next month....

Notably the 2 disc edition from 2005 that was released features the directors cut as well as masses of extras....

Wasn't it 'Picnic At Hanging Rock' that Stina saw as a child and that it scared her so much that she couldn't sleep at night?

Something like that.In one interview she says she saw it again later and the effect/atmosphere had gone...

According to IMDB, PAHR didn't receive its Swedish tv premier until as recent as December 5th, 2004.
I wonder if Stina watched it?

The film originally went on international release in 1976 so Stina would have been about 7 years old if thats when she originally saw it.

So the film has been 'restored' in the sense of the sound/picture being refurbished, rather than the excised original scenes being reinstated? Aargh. To me that's just bloody-minded. It seems like most people want to see the film in it's original structure, no matter that the director thinks his edited version is better!

Would she have been allowed into the pictures to see it though, at that age? It's not really the sort of film you'd take a seven year old to see.

No, it isn't really so maybe she was taken to another showing when she was older.
I wish I could remember where i read that original reference to Stina seeing 'PAHR'
