astrology = bad
It's based on false astronomy facts and weird datas. I wouldn't care much about it if some companies wouldn't use it to select their future workers.

The idea of companies using astrology is a bit worrying, but I think as a personal thing it can be quite interesting. It requires quite a leap of faith, though, to believe that the position of the planets at the moment you're born has anything to do with your personality. I think the only reason many people don't dismiss it completely is that, as Rob has noted above, it often seems quite accurate about personality traits. The sceptical view of course is that people just hone in on the things that seem to apply to them, and disregard anything that doesn't.

I had my chart done professionally some years ago, because I was always puzzled by how unlike my sign I am in most respects - everything you read about Aries people tells you they are highly confident, go-getting types, leaders, achievers etc, who sail through life being generally great at everything, and that is so not me.

I've always struggled with confidence, haven't achieved anything, don't have all this energy and charm and ability that Ariens are supposed to have. When I had my chart done, the first thing the person who did it pointed up was that Saturn - the 'taskmaster' of the zodiac, planet of imposed limitations and restrictions, the harsh old man who's there to make you learn lessons you need to learn - is placed alongside the sun in Aries, indicating that all those positive Arien characteristics are exactly the things I would have problems with in life.

Which cheered me up no end, obviously.

OMG! I just did the chart, lord knows why as I never go in for this sort of guff, but bloody hell, I'm actually disgustingly disturbed at it's accuracy!!! It's summed me up, how I don't know, but it certainly highlighted my furiously independent streak, determination, thought process and, perhaps a little worringly, my fighting for a cause streak!

Very bizarre....

Beth has summarised the situation very succinctly.
What gets me is how much verbiage it spills out for the unique place/moment that defines each of our horoscopes.I got the equivalent of about ten pages of A4,in seconds.That's some powerful robot,and it's doing that for all those different times and places.I smell a rat-I can't believe there isn't a whole lot of repetition involved.It would be interesting to invent a few random dates/times and see if the same screeds reappear.
It was pretty accurate about me too,but seemed to miss a very important aspect that a professional astrologer friend revealed to me years ago when she did my chart-something about the place of the Moon making me very lacking in self-confidence,or at least having the spectre of some hyper-critical Mother-figure always holding me back

There again,I don't know exactly when I was born-my Mum always says 'lunchtime' which isn't too precise.

Very good point about the 'computerised' aspect of it, Dave. Each placing will have a set definition in the programme, but unless you know something about astrology, you don't have any way of discerning which influences are stronger or weaker. Interpreting a chart is a complicated business, which is why it's a good idea to get one done by a suitably qualified human being, if possible.

Interesting comments about your moon - I have a similar influence in my chart, from the moon in the first house, badly aspected by something or other. It's supposed to indicate someone with a very dominating mother that they have a hard time breaking free of, which is very true in my case. Took me a long time to leave the negative influence of my mother behind.

Has it struck anyone that we're revealing more personal information about ourselves in this thread than we've probably done in any thread in several years?

Lunchtime?!! The exact time my daughter was born is burned into my brain.

If you haven't been able to feed your exact time of birth into the programme, it will have calculated it from noon on the day you were born, which can give a general idea for most people although usually the ascendant (rising sign) is wrong, which is quite an important aspect of the chart. The signs rise every two hours, so obviously a chart calculated from noon for someone born more than two hours before or after will be out in the ascendant. But in your case, as you were actually born around lunchtime, it's probably more accurate.

I was lucky being born in Scotland, as the time of birth is automatically entered on the birth certificate.

OK let me guess - the Earth and Water signs are the most prominent in your chart (the ones where all or most of your personal planets - sun, moon, mercury, venus and mars - reside). Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo and Cancer are probably all occupied. Nothing in Aries or Sagittarius, Gemini or Scorpio. Come on, prove me wrong.
