What Do You Make Of 2007?

Is anyone else disappointed with what's come out so far this year?

I have never bought so few new albums in my life, so far I have only bought:

01. UNKLE - War Stories
02. Siobhan Donaghy - Ghosts
03. Kristin Hersh - Learn To Sing Like A Star

Admittedly I probably will buy the Tori Amos one when it gets cheap enough, otherwise all I'm waiting for is Gravenhurst, Broadcast, PJ Harvey and Buck 65!!

I'm going to struggle to make a top 10 this year

Is it because music quality is going down the lav? hehe...

Besides I have been buying a lot of older music this year, tracking down rarities and deleted albums that I actually want rather than a CD with a few tracks on I like. Is it because I'm getting old and fussy????

(I'm still trawling secondhand shops for a genuine 70's vinyl of Pink Moon by Nick Drake, I just want to hear it crackle underneath his voice.... )

Björk - Volta (although it's definitely sub-par for Björk)

Given my extremely narrow interest in rock music, I consider this a bumper year - Tori, Bjork, PJ Harvey and Radiohead all in one year!

'Ghosts' was a lovely bonus.

Oh Oh OH!!! I forgot, Portishead #3 is coming out, the album went to the mixing stage on August 4th, YAY!

So there is also that to look forward to!

Hehe indeed,bit of a massive generalisation,'music'.There's a great deal more 'music' around than the small area of it that you allude to.Just pointing that out.And the vast majority of it goes unrecorded.

Probably. That's what I do,and I qualify as old and fussy.I don't think I've bought a single 'new' album this year

The only new album that i've bought this year is Paul McCartney's 'Memory Almost Full'. I can't think of any other album released this year.
But I do buy albums but i'm usually a year behind like with the Sol Seppy and Emma Nordenstam albums.

Maybe I'll be buying this years albums next year?

I was referring more to the fact that the quality of music by particular artists I have enjoyed in the past I've found disappointing this year and that is what I'm finding noticable. I wasn't intentionally generalising, it was a figure of speech, which perhaps I could have phrased better at the time. [b)]

We bought an indecent amount of stuff this year, just received a big shipping from our favourite pusher, Secretely Canadian, I can't lament about this year...I will think about my best ones...

Three listens in, and M.I.A.'s Kala is my favorite cd of the year so far.

I've also bought quite a number of cd's this year already, more than in previous years. But also more to catch up with albums that came out earlier which i didn't have yet. The one i bought of this year was Nine Horses - Money for All, but that's an EP; still a very good one!

I have bought a fair few records this year, so I think I will be okay for a top ten at the end of it, in terms of frontrunners, there is a clear winner to date (and honestly it is so good I cant see anything overtaking it, but you never know) and that is The Bairns - by Rachel Unthank and the Winterset, simply a quite riveting and stunningly interpreted set of UK folk songs some traditioanal and some self penned, if anyone on this board as any remote love for folk music you simply must buy this album.

Biggest disappointment to date is the new Rilo kiley album under the Blacklight, very very mediocre in comparison to their previous releases.

Well I have a big love of British folk music,and have been listening to a lot lately,and Rachel Unthank's name keeps swimming into my ken,so I'd better check it out...!
