Best of Stina Nordenstam album - would it be a good idea?

Would it be a good idea if Stina brought out an album that consists of the best songs of her last six albums?

Maybe it could be voted by the fans like how Bjork's Greatest Hits was compiled.

Would you buy it?

I listen to Stina because of her albums, not because of individual songs

The Top 10 Stina Songs thread got me thinking: Even though ASCHE and PAS are my two favorite albums ever, I rarely put any of her songs on mix cds. To me, Dynamite has maybe two or three songs I'd listen to by themself, though I could listen to that album for weeks without getting tired of it.

A Best Of album doesn't interest me. Besides, if I want a mix cd I'll burn one myself.

I'm with YaoPau.The 'Best of' compilations,and even artist-chosen ones,are usually light years away from my personal favourites,and inevitably not the best tracks musically either.
And as YaoPau implies,each of Stina's albums stands up as an entity in itself,espec Dynamite,PAS and ASCHE,not to be torn into bleeding chunks.
But I'd buy it for the artwork if it had new pics of Stina/new interview/new info or somesuch.
What WOULD be good is to have a collection of rarities/non-album tracks/one-off collaborations etc,of which Stina has done plenty-running to several CDs worth.

I'd buy it, just because I couldn't not buy any album she puts out.

I do think artist-compilations can be extremely useful for attracting new fans. And with Stina, because she hasn't had any 'hits', it wouldn't have any connotation of a sell-out, money-grabbing thing at all; it could stand as a genuine representation of the artist's body of work, a way for potentially interested music lovers to guage her different eras and decide which album to start with, if they like what they hear.

On the practical side, the first four albums are on one label,the fifth on another and the sixth on yet another label. So those three companies (EastWest,Independiente & V2) would have to collaborate on any compilation and I seriously doubt that they'd be suffient enough financial gain for them to get involved.
In a way,I'm surprised that EastWest didn't do a compilation album post 'People Are Strange' as that would have been the ideal time to put together a 'best of' plus perhaps a few unreleased tracks.

In fact, I'm still hoping that Stina will own the rights to her backcatalogue someday. I can't imagine that Warner Music or Independiente desperately want to keep them since the albums haven't been bestsellers.

Interesting thought there. I share most it myself. I also tend to listen to whole albums rather than individual songs which is one of the reasons why I'm against downloading. Another reason being that I love the idea of having a 3-d object i can physically touch with artwork inside rather than word titles on a digital screen to sum up the albums. I have never own an Mp3 player and I'm hoping that CDs don't disappear.

Some albums like Dynamite need to be listen to all the way through because each song flows into each other like a story. Whilst The World Is Saved has less of that kind of feel to it but I still much prefer to listen to it all the way through.

I don't think it's a good idea about having a best of album either because the tracks sit nicely in their albums and might not fit together when they are taken from different moods in Stina's musical world.

Good idea, I would definitely buy a Stina collaborations album. Ask the mountains would be on there which I really want to own.

In fact, I'm still hoping that Stina will own the rights to her backcatalogue someday. I can't imagine that Warner Music or Independiente desperately want to keep them since the albums haven't been bestsellers.

In a perfect world that would happen but unfortunately the reality is that most record companies are so bloody minded that they'd rather lock the masters away in storage with no intention of ever using them again,rather than allowing the artist the opportunity of purchasing their back catalogue and making some capital out of them.

And in the meantime a lot of master tapes are gathering dust in poorly maintained locations ( badly regulated temperatue settings etc).

I wonder when the MOAC master tape was visually inspected (let alone listened to) for instance?

Funny, Dynamite is the one Stina album that I never listen to in the original order. I tend to skip the track Mary Bell because I dislike it. It has no melody and the lyrics are terrible.

I wouldn't buy it if it didn't contain new tracks. I didn't get the Lori Glory single either because it just contains one track. The artwork might be nice, but I'm a fan because of the music.

I agree. A sampler with tracks of all the albums would be a good introduction. Which reminds me, didn't Stina compile such a compilation just before The World is Saved was released?

Storage costs money too. And there are some exceptions in which labels do let artist buy the rights back.

I guess not. Thank god for the times to come in which digital recording really takes a flight. No more troubles with mastertapes.
