I'm probably one of a diminishing minority,but the only reason I come here is to talk Stina Nordenstam.After all she is the reason we've all coincided...

Meanwhile ,Paul,tell us about what went on after the Walk In the Park portal-I think you're the only person here,other then Vero,who had an involvement,am I right?

I wasn't involved in the creating of The Walk In The Park website. But I was a stina follower at that time. I believe I joined the stina mailinglist in 1998 or 1999 and then started following Veronique's website on stina. Of course we were thrilled by the fact that Veronique was being asked to participate in the creating of the website.

The website itself was nice. Nordenstam.com contained a sort of text with links through all kinds of handwritten words with a little quote of stina behind that. Plus it had the dialogue with stina. Sadly that project failed.

May I make another suggestion? Please do link the title to Stina. Something like "Desire Avenue, a forum about Stina Nordenstam". I really think that if you'd include stina's name in the title that the forum's traffic through Google should increase. Give it a try please, if it doesn't work than we can always remove this.

Yep, i'll add dito to that Dave.....the two old gits stand together on that one. ......and if we could drag Duncan back then I'm pretty sure that would be three old gits.

The thing is here I don't see that Paul/Alex would want to create a forum that is too similar in style to the official Stina site. If its going to be an independant forum/message board then it needs its own identity although still readily identifible with Stina and her work.

I'm not convinced that trying to recreate the 'barbie board' colour scheme is going to make this forum any more/less popular. The 'Barbie board' era (as with the CQD era) was a time and a place that doesn't exist anymore. Time changes everything,especially people and having a pink board isn't going to see Angie or Coral......or Dete (or whatever his/her name was) coming back with a flood of posts from renewed interest.

Maybe we should come up with a new name for the forum though........a title which would instantly relate to Stina!

Being serious though,my main concern is that Paul and Alex should put a lot of work into creating a new forum and then find that the forum is in direct competition with an official message board at Stina's official website.

So as Dave suggests,maybe we should hold fire for a little while longer until we know exactly whats going to happen at the official site.

Ok time to explain this again...
I removed Stina name in the message board some months ago.
Why ? To focus on Miss Nordenstam only is a dead end.
I'll change my mind the day Stina and/or her record company will care about the fanbase and this place. Until that, my main idea is to focus on active artists mainly.

I agree with you Alex, obviously, and I love Paul's idea of registering http://www.barbieboard.com.

I'll just say what I always say when this discussion comes up - a board focused on our wide range of interests does not mean that Stina Nordenstam will somehow be *excluded*. She'd have her own sticky thread in the music section, or whatever. It just means that she wouldn't be the sole reason for the board to exist. I'm still not sure why that's such a problem for some here. I mean Dave, you say that you only come here to talk about Stina - but there's hardly any talk about Stina here, hasn't been for ages. You've spent more time talking to me via PM about our lives and stuff the past few days than you've spent talking on the board about Stina. Are you really saying that if Stina wasn't the focus of the board, you wouldn't want to talk to me or any of the others anymore? You wouldn't come here?

I really don't get that. I come here to keep in touch with you lot. The occasional bit of discussion about Stina is a bonus. If there's going to be an official forum on Stina's official site, that would be the obvious place to conduct Stina discussion, but it doesn't mean we can't still have our own little board for ourselves. I don't understand why it has to be one thing or the other. I never have.

Paul, Alex, if you guys want to follow your plans through, I'll be very happy and honoured to frequent your site, always. I don't have a problem at all with going to an official Stina site to talk about her, and coming to your board to talk about everything else. [akiss]

This board may evolve in the future, but I guess the Stina section will always be online.
Only the name of this place may change one day that's all.
I don't really care to have more members here, it's too much time consuming when many people posts messages.
About the barbieboard domain name, I guess Mattel watch those things carefully so I'm not so sure it's safe to use it.

By the way, Dave must check the sections when he posts as many of his messages are not Stina related

I didn't really mean that,Beth,I just don't want Stina to be written out of the script-sometimes seems that way because we all get so frustrated with the lack of news. I feel everyone sometimes gangs up on Stina just because she wants to anonymous.-but we're all here initially because of her.

And of course I like blathering on about other things with everyone else too .But if there was Stina news coming thick and fast,I'd concentrate on blathering about that probably

OK, well on my part it is not about that at all - Stina isn't that big a part of my life.

I can't understand why you'd think people are 'ganging up' on her somehow and wanting to deliberately exclude her from discussion for some vindictive reason ... I mean it just baffles me. All we're saying is that Stina is not really the sole focus of our discussion, and hasn't been for some considerable time, so it would be more accurate to call it a board for multiple active artists/topics rather than 'a Stina Nordenstam board.' Stina would still be a part of our discussion, obviously, because we're all fans!

We seem to go round in circles with this ... I don't see the problem, I really don't, but maybe that's because I've never had an emotional attachment to Stina Nordenstam the person. For me, it's all about words and music, and that's it. Stina's words and music are part of my interest in a much wider range of words and music and pictures and issues and ..... I guess I don't feel any need to be her 'protector on the 'net', or whatever. And she clearly isn't bothered herself about having a dedicated board and a group of fans to try to spread the word about her, it's not a priority for her. I just wonder if maybe some here feel an obligation to Stina that she herself would find puzzling and unnecessary.

Anyway, as ever I expect things will just continue as they are, and I'll be around regardless of the exact nature of the board. Wherever SoundWorld and RobB and PGSS and ALX and d.a. walker and the rest are chatting about stuff, I'll be there.

Ok people; nostalgia is nice, but keep it real; you cannot recreate something long gone, it will only become fake and i don't think you would attract new people just less of the existing people. So the other idea is a better one in my opinion. To make a board scheme with the colours that you can choose for this forum; even the header could say "barbie board" then instead of DA (it's a logo right?)

Well I don't think anyone was talking about trying to 'recreate' the barbieboard, Harrie, just making something new that gives a nod back to our communal past and emphasises the fact that it's our board, not one specifically dedicated to a particular artist. |Don't forget that what we refer to as 'the barbieboard' didn't in fact exist under that title - it was a Stina Nordenstam site tied in with the 'This Is ...' album. 'Barbieboard' is a word that the community took up, it's OUR word, not Stina's, which is I guess why some think it would be appropriate for our board. Personally I just think it's fun.

I think this is another area where there seems to be a split between two groups in this community - some have always been looking to increase traffic to the board and the size of the community, some aren't bothered, will welcome new members if they come but don't feel a great need to try to attract them. I'm in the latter group I think, I'd like more of the people who do find us to post but I don't care if we don't have hundreds of members.
