Well I'll be a monkey's (great) uncle.

Post by RobB »

My little ( well, not so little now....he's over 6ft ) nephew Lee become a Dad last night when his girlfriend Becky gave birth to a 10lb 4oz baby boy who they have called Conner.
So I have now become a great uncle  , my Dad a great grandad,my little brother a grandad (serves him right), and I have another generation to add to the family tree .....the 17th generation which I can trace back to the 16th century. :)

Congrats,RobB.
I have four nieces, two of whom are 17 (and gorgeous),so it might not be that long before I become a great uncle too. Although they won't be perpetuating my surname,of course.

10lb 4oz? Ouch.

Congratulations on becoming a great-uncle, Rob. ^

I'll never be an auntie now, my two brothers are both 'confirmed bachelors', one for the obvious reason and one because he's a miserable tight-fisted git who prefers his bank book to any woman.

My bruv got it wrong when he text the info and baby Connor only weighed 9lb 4oz which I guess is a less of an ouch.
Actually Mum was given a caesarean in the end as her waters had broken 48 hours earlier and baby wasn't making much headway as it were. He started to make his journey out into the world and then sussed the crap weather and thought he'd be better off staying where he was.

I went to see the little chap yesterday at his home......yep,Mum and babe had been turfed out of hospital less then 40 hours after the birth, blood still is hair because the latest fad now is not to wash the babys head because it might damage the oils in the sculp or whatever and so increase the chances of eczema etc in later life. :?
Anyway,he's a little cutie......I'll try and wean him on some Stina music ASAP.

Sorry, how much is that in kilos? Too tired to convert it myself, sorry!
Big congrats to all, but to the mommy most of all! A c-section is definitely not the right way to deliver, I'm sorry for her. Make sure she she people helping her put home, at least for the first weeks!
They didn't wash his head? I am puzzled, every country seem to be doing different things with new-borns...I guess they rubbed it clean anyway, right?
Big sigh, I get all wooshy with babies... :I

9lbs 4oz should be 4.1957 kilos :)

Connor's Mum didn't go to the local maternity hospital but was booked into the local hospital as a precaution in case a c-section op was required as the baby was quite big and mum to be is very small.

I'm not surprised she had to have a c-section, 9lb is still huge.

At Stoke Mandeville Hospital, our local, they kick mothers out within 24 hours of giving birth, unless there's some concern for the baby's health. I just can't fathom it. Thank god I had my daughter back in civilised times. I had ten days in the maternity unit after she was born. It was a very necessary and welcome bit of time to get used to the shock of motherhood before going back out into the big bad world and having to cope on my own.

I really feel sorry for young girls having their first baby nowadays, being turfed out to get on with it less than a day after going through the most demanding event of their lives. It's incredibly shocking to me.
