favourite record releases in 2007

1. Rachel Unthank & the Winterset - The Bairns (far and away the best album of 2007)

2. Shannon Wright - Let in the Light (another masterpeice from the almost scandalously unknown Ms Wright)

3. The Innocence Mission - We walked in Song (more people really need to hear Karen Peris's voice it is totally hypnotic)

4. New Pornographers - Challengers (probably my favourite release of theirs)

5. Asobi Sesku - Asobi Sesku (ah a return to the sound of drenched guitar feedback)

6. Emma Pollock - Watch the Fireworks (nearly as good as the Delgados themselves )

7. Kristin Hersh - Learn to Sing Like a Star (is she capable of releasing a bad record, I dont think so)

8. Artic Monkeys - Favourite Worst nightmare (easily the best of the british indie bunch around at the moment)

9. Eisley - Combinations ( a bit of a let down after the brilliant Room Noises, but enough good moments to get into my top ten)

10. Beach House - Beach House

Well this year I almost only bought older releases, so my list shall be short:
1. Ghosts - Siobhan Donaghy
2. In Rainbows - Radiohead
3. Release the Stars - Rufus Wainwright
4. Overpowered - Roisin Murphy
5. Standing in the way of control - The Gossip

And absolute failures this year:
1. PJ Harvey's last album (someone should ask for a court order forbidding her to sing in high notes)
2. American Doll Posse - Tori Amos (started playing it in november, tried it many times.... the beekeeper was even better)
3. Volta - Björk (just not on the high level like Homogenic or Debut. I want my poppy Björk back!)
4. The last Polly Paulusma album.

my friend would love you, Shannon and Kristin are two of his very favorite artists, although he was dissapointed by Let In The Light. I wouldn't know how it is as i don't have it yet, but i do have Maps of Tacit which i think is utterly brilliant. Pay No Mind is fantastic!

I am adding Neon Bible of the Arcade fire and Armchair Apocrypha of Andrew Bird to my list, powerful, evocative and elegant at the same time, something magical about them.

my friend would love you, Shannon and Kristin are two of his very favorite artists, although he was dissapointed by Let In The Light. I wouldn't know how it is as i don't have it yet, but i do have Maps of Tacit which i think is utterly brilliant. Pay No Mind is fantastic!

That good too know, you can never have enough friends and allies.

Personally I think let in the light is better than maps of tacit .
