How 'This Is' DVD/Barbieboard artwork was made!

Thanks to Google's fantastic 'Google books' resource,you can see the portion of a book called 'Designing DVD menus' which takes the 'This Is' DVD as an example of DVD menu design.This link should take you straight to the relevant pages-

Interesting that the text says 'the team were given no artwork or info about the artist'-leading to the first,sci-fi design,and then 'more information became available' leading to the Circus theme.Presumably the information was that there was a track on the CD called Circus. I can't see any other connection unless Independiente had already started on the Barbieboard artwork and handed it over-since there is a credit on the DVD for stinaonline.com ,one would assume this to be the case.
(I remember the first time I came across the Barbieboard,I was convinced it was connected to some other Stina Nordenstam because the circus theme/music seemed to have nothing to do with the gloomy singer I loved!).


Incidentally I hadn't realised before that the Main menu of 'This Is' contains all those sub-pictures.When you load up the DVD,you get the first page which says 'Play All'-which is what I've always done.But if you play it on a computer and click on the elephants/clowns/guns etc (in the same way the Barbieboard navigated),you get all the sub-menu pictures.On a standalone,you hit the left-right buttons to get all the submenus.What fun!

Its quite ironic that the film of the song 'Circus' had a close up head shot of Stina singing the lyrics where as the 'Circus' theme was visually represented by 'Sharon & Hope' which lyrically had nothing to do with the circus.
No wonder Stina looks rather bemused and rueful whilst singing 'Circus'

From memory the dvd project was given a budget of £55k, with each film maker given £5k for their craetion. I suspect that the makers of the 'Clothe Yourself Well ...." film had a lot of change jangling around in their pockets afterwards.

Hehe,I think Stina herself was one of the makers of that.
AND-remember that 'Circus' (which Stina also had a hand in) was the video that DIDN"T make it to the DVD? and when Stina was asked about it on the CQD board,remember her response??
Maybe now we know why!

She always thought that the expense of the film was ludicrous.
(PS I think the guys who put together the 'links' between each video had a budget of 50p and a free day pass to the Naff Video Archive. )

Yeah,I think Stina's attitude to 'Circus' explains wht it never made the dvd but I dont know why? Maybe it was a vanity thing but I thought she looked pretty cute in that video and the song itself is (IMHO) the best on the album.
It should have been on the dvd....and the dvd itself should have made it to the shops.
