Now that I'm a grown up...

Post by d.a.walker »

...time just slips away. I'm so bloody busy these days I've had next to no time to post here!! My involvement with Radio Adelaide, political lobby groups, recording and diploma work just eat away all of my time like pirrhanas!

It was much easier when I was in my 20's

Sorry I've missed some birthdays on here too!

At the moment my trapped nerve in my back is playing up so I have a bit of time to browse and make up for it (I think until at least Friday that is haha).

How are we all? :D
I dreamed of 747's, over geometric farms...

Feeling slightly better than you are at the moment by the sound of things.
Back problems are nasty so I wish you a speedy recovery from your trapped nerve. :)

Yes, hope your back gets better.
The 'grownup' bit puts me in mind of a musicians' joke:

'Daddy daddy I want to be a lead guitarist when I grow up!

Now then,son,you can't do both'

Hi Daniel, hope your back is on the mend.

Not much to report here ... just ticking along, reading a lot and working on stories.

I've already written one Stina-inspired story, thanks. Damn, should've found a way to work the boots into that one ....

As to how I am...
-I've spent most of the last year thinking about a woman I split up with 20 years ago.I wish I knew why,I don't have anything to do with her anymore.I think I'm going to have to get some help,it's doing my head in. :?
-I've just been diagnosed with high blood pressure and high cholesterol.I have to take pills for the hbp,and I might have to for the hc.,but first I'm trying to change my lifestyle.Animal fats out, even more cycling and walking.(This is not fair,I have never driven a car).
-I haven't done a creative gig in a year.Dunno why.But it's getting to me...
-Otherwise business, workwise, as usual.26 piano pupils.Administrating/MDing an annual Festival.
Oh,and I'm about to start teaching music theory to Portishead's drummer. Really. (What do you call someone who hangs around with musicians?....)

Wow Dave! Sounds like you are not having the best of times at the moment. Hope things get better for you soon. :(

Can understand the irony of not driving a car, I've never sat behind a steering wheel in my life and I think that I should at least get some decent health credits for that!!!!!

I can relate to bad years so well, 2006 was a stinker for me, I had a near breakdown, was diagnosed with colitis which completely changed my lifestyle forever and ended up on lots of meds as a result. I think I only got through 2007 by recording the songs I wrote during 2006 which documented such a hideous period. The downside being that barely anyone has heard it as I find it too painful to share it. Part of the reason why I never got around to giving Alex the copy I promised him (so sorry). The brighter side is that it did get me an arts grant for my next album.

As for that bastard trapped nerve, it's been a problem since I was about 10. It was winter and I was taking an antique Victorian iron to school for some history project. I slipped on my way to school and landed on the iron in my backpack. Had problems ever since. The worst part of it is that it affects my right leg terribly and I can't walk properly when it flares up. It's a lot better today, though it's ruined my entire week.

What you reading Beth? I am still trying to plough my way through Donna Tartt's The Little Friend (or as I refer to it Donna Friend's The Little Tart  ). Not as good as the Secret History, but then how could anyone top that! ^

I also found a load of my old Clive Barker books in a box the other week, might give them a read and rediscover my twisted Uni days

Funny how things can be the exact opposite. I'm struggling with a low bloodpressure at the moment. I'm dizzy all the time and can't walk in a straight line at the moment. And the doctor says there's nothing he can do. I should eat more salt and probably this will be a problem for me the rest of my life. The only thing good about it is that it is very unlikely that I'll have a high bloodpressure when I'm older.

Further it is mainly working and mentally preparing for a next birthday. I'll be turning 31 [:xx]

That might be just an age thing,Dave? The older you get the more nostlagic you become. Like school hoildays, you only remember the sunny days, never the crap rainy days. So its all too easy to look back through rose tinted specs and think about what might have been but of course you're remembering this woman how she was twenty years ago.You might have a shock if you saw her today?

Thanks for that,RobB.Well, yes it is an age thing; since hitting 50 I've been doing an inordinate amount of reminiscing, and there hasn't been anything much new and exciting to offset that. Although I don't think I'm labouring under any illusions,it's just that I can't stop thinking about her. :?
What's more the blood pressure etc is also age-related.I never had it before...
And the cholesterol is probably more to do with cheese than beer.
