Blimey, someone on that forum has made 34,000 posts. Touch of the OCDs, methinks. Nothing is that important.

The board has been going ten years, Dave. If you're talking about Kari, the poster at the top of the page I linked, she's been posting for nine years. She's awesome actually, a young up and coming New York playwright, very sharp and funny - one of the people who make that board worth a read.

I must mention as well that although @ is a Tori board, there are lots of other sections focused on all kinds of music and arts and personal chit-chat etc, so people who are there for years do tend to rack up the posts, but they're not always about Tori. :D

At 34,000 posts that works out roughly 10 posts a day, every day for nine years. 8)
Wouldn't it be funny if the site system crashed and she lost the lot and had to start at 00001 again?

It's kind of amazing that the board has never crashed, actually - @ is one of the biggest forums on the internet in terms of volume of traffic, but it hardly ever has 'technical difficulties'.

It would be hilarious to see the main clique's faces if it ever did crash, though. Kari is by no means the only one with posts in the 20/30/40,000s. There's quite an extensive group there who use the board to talk to each other most days, so that's a LOT of history/conversations going back over ten years. They'd be distraught.

Not that anyone with any level of sanity would ever go back and read those old posts. I'm surprised they don't automatically delete anything over six months old. It must be a case of the same old people writing the same old things over and over and over again?

For someone so interested in the past, the roots of things and so on, you have a really strange attitude to this. :?: People talking to each other is what relationships are built on - there's a personal history there that obviously means something to the people concerned, shared memories of laughter and arguments and deep discussions and silliness that were all a part of people's day in real time .... to me it has a value, definitely. It's what keeps me coming back to this board, for instance - otherwise what would there be to come here for? Why are we all arranging to meet up in real life, if it doesn't mean anything? :?:

Strange. I just can't understand why you think this kind of 'past' is unimportant, but you're fascinated with what your great-great-grandfather did on his farm a hundred years ago. :D

Much as it is here. Should we just delete everything over six months old on this board, too? I mean if we're just here passing the time because we're bored, we should probably just delete it all at the end of each day shouldn't we?

Interesting one. The amount of times I have cursed the loss of CQD/ Barbieboard is legion. I would LOVE to be able to read back through some of those posts. There's also quite a bit of information buried among all the chit-chat, obscure discographical data etc. And lots of laughs, and it's sometimes great to read a whole thread all through.
My partner drives me up the wall sometimes because she won't throw stuff out. She keeps all the personal letters she ever got from anybody, fair enough. But she also keeps all the Xmas cards :? Yes, even the ghastly ones from Auntie Dora, who she's forgotten the existence of otherwise. Just signed 'Love Dora', no message. And rose catalogues from 1953 (we have no interest in roses, let alone ones from 1953 that we can't order any more). And on and on. Thing is,she never looks at any of this stuff ever again. Luckily I am a good packer, and our house has a fair bit of space.
So I would love to delete all that, because it DOES take up space. But a messageboard in Cyberspace doesn't. So unless the server it sits with pulls the plug, I don't see why it shouldn't stay around.

Yep - even here sometimes if I have time, I go back to old threads and read through them. It can be interesting sometimes to see how people's opinions about stuff alter over time, or just to laugh at something. :D

I must admit, I have a big box upstairs with lots of Christmas/birthday cards I've received over the years. Generally I'm pretty good at getting rid of old stuff, I'm not a hoarder, but there's something about cards that means something to me I guess. Once in a blue moon I sit and read through them and it makes me happy to remember the people, and the occasions.

Well yeah, I feel the same. It's a record of the interaction that has formed relationships between the people in the community, and to me that's valuable and interesting.

well,if what he did involved my great-great-grandmother then I think i would consider it more important, me having a slightly invested interest of course.

Apparently there's a four-track sampler doing the rounds. It's watermarked, but some clever person might get around that, so if you hear anything folks, lemme know!

It seems T has significantly rewritten the carols, including lyric changes. Hmm. Not sure how I feel about that, but I'll reserve judgement until I've heard them. The original track 'Pink and Glitter' is the big band piece, and 'What Child, Nowell' has plenty harpsichord, so she wasn't fibbing about that after all. :D

The lyrics to 'A Silent Night With You' are completely original, no hint of the carol, so I think it may actually be another Tori original? Seeing as she's singing the German version of Silent Night on the bonus disc.

Clippity-clips:

I'm actually pleasantly surprised. This sounds as if it's going to be a rather gentle, beautiful album - even in the clips you can hear lots of gorgeous string arrangements, the harpsichord is there loud and clear, the big band track has a classic feel to it, the vocals are pretty ..... and there's only a couple of tracks that seem to feature Matt, Jon and Mark prominently. All in all I'm kind of looking forward to it now!

'A Silent Night With You' is definitely a Tori original, and I think 'Snow Angel' might be too. So that would make 4 original songs on the album in total.

Just swap out the cover for something less Botoxed, and we might actually have the first decent Tori album since Scarlet's Walk. ^ ^

Wow, a fan already has the clips streaming together on youtube:

Listening to them all together like this makes me anticipate the record even more. I'm kind of loving it already. :D ^

'Harps of Gold' sounds very much like Solsbury Hill. No bad thing in my book.

Its funny how tastes can change. A couple of the songs sounded good, and instrumentally most of the tracks are pleasing, and yet Toris singing just grates with me on every song.
Not that she's singing any different than she normally does and probably 15 years ago I would have loved this, but now I just find her performances uninvolving, unemotional and just plain dull.

Hmm, I think the vocals are an improvement over the last couple of albums, from what we can hear in the clips .... but there's no question that vocally she is nowhere near as strong as she once was. I think I commented after the ADP show I went to a couple of years ago that I thought she was really struggling vocally, and unfortunately many of her vocal performances on the recent tour are just pitiful compared to ye olde days. She just doesn't seem to have the strength and breath that she once had, and her TMJ is clearly affecting her singing these days.

I first noticed her vocal performances going down on the Plugged tour, to be honest. I mean, she was amazing on that tour, but even then it was clear she was having to sing differently to make herself heard over the band. I think the subsequent band tours have exacerbated the problem, to the point now where her voice is basically shot. I suspect if she had just kept touring solo/with a guitarist, her voice would be in much better shape all these years down the line.
Her best live vocals in recent years have been on the radio shows - where she's performed solo.

Anyway I like what I'm hearing in the clips, it's so nice to be looking forward to a Tori album for a change. :D
