Good lord, how awful - what a way to start off in the world. You must have been a tough little cookie to survive an illness like that when you were only days old.

Indeed, I don't think many people would know tiredness and feeling depressed can be symptoms of thyroidism - I certainly didn't until my colleague mentioned it to me in relation to my own health. It's one of those things there's a real lack of awareness about generally, as well educated as many of us are about illnesses these days.
One of the problems with diagnosing hyper versus hypo is that the core symptoms of both are very similar. The only real tell-tale thing is that with hyper people tend to lose weight because the metabolism goes into overdrive, whereas with hypo the opposite happens. Also body temperature can be a good indication, because the metabolism controls it, so if you're unusually cold all the time it's more likely to be hypo.
Anyway hopefully they'll get it sorted and start you on the appropriate medication soon, the good thing is that once diagnosed it's easily treated with a daily tablet.
Ice, you were the one most tender with the rivers.
You, the roof of the waves, layer after layer after layer ...
