Tickling is always a good strategy against marauding kids (that is until they discover that you might be just as ticklish, if not more so. I belong in the latter category [rolling] ).

*Sigh* my four nieces are all grown up now, two of them just started at Uni, one about to start and the other a moody 16-year-old. Really hard to avoid giving them anything more than a Gift token or iTunes token for Xmas-anything else wouldn't pass the test. I'll have to wait for Grandchildren to get littl'uns in my life again now.

Yeah, my niece and nephew are all grown up now too (26 & 23) but my great nephew is 2 and i have another great something or other on the way as my niece is expecting a baby in March.

The scary thing last Saturday night when i was holding my great nephew up to the window to draw faces in the condensation on the glass was that it didn't seem that seem that long ago when i was doing exactly the same thing with his Dad.

Speaking of which, have I mentioned lately how completely freaking ADORABLE my grandson is? He's just started smiling, real proper smiles. Oooh it's enough to melt even my cold Scots heart.

One of the best things you can do with an infant is hang a big smiley (just two dots and a smile in a circle is enough) over their cot. Humans are predisposed towards recognising a face in so simple a diagram, and an infant will enjoy gazing at it for hours, and quickly learn the value of smiling!

A great piece of reading on this and other extraordinary infant predispositions etc is 'The Continuum Concept' by Jean Liedloff, mandatory reading for all new parents (and Boos ). Much more interesting than the title suggests. A good Crimbo present?

I'm dying to show him off, I just don't know how - I have pictures of him on my phone but no idea how to get them onto the laptop?

I found a cable the other day that connects the phone to the laptop but the machine won't recognise the phone, I was hoping to download mp3s onto it as it has that facility but nope, nothing doing. I've searched for info on the net and yesterday I managed to download a 'pc suite' produced by the manufacturer of the phone, I got all excited cos I thought that was it, but it kept saying the phone wasn't connected, even though it was. Ugh. I hate technology. There's nothing in the instruction manual for the phone that tells you how to download/upload.

Hopefully I'm going to be getting Kate's old camera soon, my brother has told her he's buying her a really expensive camera she wants for Christmas so she's going to pass her current one on to me. I'm hoping it's a bit more straightforward with cameras, as opposed to phones? God, I wish I wasn't so useless with these things, most people probably wouldn't even have to think about how to do it but I'm not naturally a technically-minded person, and I get frustrated trying to find out how to do things from the net and getting nowhere.

Good grief....grandmother with grandson and not one person has taken a single shot with a camera. Oh well, maybe at his 21st birthday party then.

I've never connected with a mobile phone either i'm afraid but its easy enough with a digital camera.

Having said that, i can no longer upload my pictures to photobucket for some reason (the images are still jpeg but photobucket no longer recognises them), although i can still upload to photo processing companies like Photobox or family history sites like Genesreunited. Hmm....

Do you know, it occurred to me on the night he was born how strange it is that we all use our phones now to take pictures. There we were - me, his dad and his other grandmother, all pointing our phones at him.

Even if I do manage to get a camera-picture of me with him I probably won't post it Rob, you know I'm very self-conscious about my (lack of) looks, I should think everyone in our little group knows that by now. That's not a happy place to be, and I could do with not being made to feel worse about it than I do already, mate.

Went over to Kate's today and my brother turned up with her new camera for Christmas, she promised not to open it till the day itself but I bet she had it unwrapped as soon as we left! So as soon as she's cleared all her stuff off the old camera it'll be passed on to me.

We took Rocco to the baby clinic to get weighed, he's now 11lbs exactly - that's 3lbs he's gained in seven weeks, so obviously his mum is doing something right. He looked particularly handsome in his duffel coat and jeans, I must say.
