Jonas Akerlund directed 'Circus' promo film

According to Jonas Akerlund's website, Jonas directed the promotional film for 'Circus', the only film not to be included in the 'This IS Stina Nordenstam' promotional dvd-r.

I think there has been a slight ? over his involvement with the project.



More recently Jonas has won an award for directing the Paul McCartney documentary film, 'Live Kisses'.

Yes, it's my little trauma. On CQD we could admit some questions Stina would answer, which obviously was a great opportunity. I had a few including this particular question, and during the interview, the question was casually introduced by Veronique resulting in a laughter by Stina. Well. Apparently a memorable laughter, because the answer is still unclear.

Its difficult for me to be seen as being objective as I love the song so much,.....but in all honesty, despite how simple the promo film is, it really is my favourite promo by Stina.

I think that the Stina Nordenstam-Jonas Åkerlund connection goes back to "Super Cirkör", a "contemporary circus" show directed by Åkerlund in 1998. It was performed by Cirkus Cirkör.

I wasn't able to see the show myself but I read at the time that Stina was working with the project. Some evidence of that is heard one minute into this frantic trailer:

I have this completely unconfirmed theory that Circus was written during this period and released on record much later. That could explain why Åkerlund made the video. It certainly looks like a perfect film to be projected during a live performance. A bit like the duet footage from the Mew concert.

Again an interesting find. Great to hear the use of "come to me" (from the "people are strange" Era also 1998-1999)
Maybe the 'circus' video was excluded on the promo dvd due to the fact it was exclusively intended for a related project. Or as a deal for the use of Stina's music, Akerlund directed "Circus". Well enough scenarios to think of.
It also reminds me of the website for This is..by her label at that time, Independiente, which had a 'circus' theme.

That trailer is bonkers. Reminds me of a circus/theatre group I had a connection with back in the 80s, called Arkaos. Someone who I worked with in theatre was their manager for a while and he used to say they didn't have meetings, just fights.
