Lori Glory?

I'm beginning to think that by doing that album of covers ('People Are Strange'),the experience rubbed off a little too much for Stina's next collection of songs?

I think for Walk Away Renee the obvious link is to Rickie's version, since she was, along with Bowie, the biggest single early influence on Stina:-

The Suede one is more obvious, but then again that nursery-rhyme melody (up a bit, down a bit) occurs in millions of songs and so is part of the collective unconscious.
I wrote a series of songs for a children's festival three years ago, and the melody for the last one just came to me one day, complete. I have a hunch that it might be derived from another song lurking in my subconscious memory, but I haven't discovered what it is yet (if it is indeed a 'quote').


I think the tiny little riff in 'Always crashing' which crops up in a similar way on Lori, is pretty bog-standard, so I wouldn't necessarily cite that as a direct quote; but I reckon the naff plastic sax SOUND on 'Lori' has a direct forebear in Bowie though; he was a pretty naff sax player himself but used his limitations really effectively, including the 'plastic' tone.

Given Stina's age I guess its more likely that she first heard 'Walk Away Renee' via Rickie's version but the actual arrangement of 'Sharon and Hope' is more in keeping with the Left Banke version don't you think? But then maybe that was Tchad Blake's & Mitchell Froom's influence?

Its occurred to me that Independiente might have noticed the similarity between the songs and was why they suddenly cancelled the release of 'Sharon & Hope' as a single?
