Looking at people's Tori favorites, it's perfectly clear The Beekeeper is no keeper. And that's really no suprise!

I've been listening to the album quite a bit, and I'm sticking with my first feeling that I like it better than Scarlet's Walk. Favorite tracks right now, kinda but not reallly in order:

Witness
Mother Revolution
The Power or Orange Knickers
Parasol
The Beekeeper
Hoochie Woman
General Joy

The only two I'm really not fond of are Ribbons Undone and Jamaica Inn. Also, I got her book for my birthday - anyone else read it yet? I've only skimmed through parts of it so far. It's written that way, so you can pick it up and read a passage or two at random. Not quite sure what I think of it as a whole yet, but there are some interesting tidbits.

I'm slowly starting to feel comfortable with the sound of The Beekeeper.

My favourite tracks at the moment are:
- Jamaica Inn (Angie, I can't believe that you dislike this track!);
- The Power of Orange Knickers;
- Mother Revolution;
- Witness;
- Goodbye Pisces.

But these tracks are not (yet) in the list of my alltime favourite Tori songs.

I dunno, sometimes the tracks that I dislike in the beginning end up becoming my favorites - anything can happen! [crazy]

I heard that a certain tori lover, whom used to be on the old board, fell asleep while listen to the Beekeeper. [:xx]

It's true, I did. I bought it at work and couldn't wait to get home at the end of the day to listen to it, but when I put it on I fell asleep during it! I couldn't believe it and put it down to just being tired from work, but the second time I played the album it happened again! [help]

So that was three months or so ago and I've had many many listens to this album now, I've tried to 'get it' but apart from two or three tracks I downloaded before release (Sweet The Sting, Witness, Mother Revolution), it's just not happening for me. It's been such a rollercoaster, this one - I feared the worst after hearing the clips of Cars and Guitars and Sleeps With Butterflies, then felt completely reassured after downloading some tracks, then the album itself was a huge let-down. [cry]

I stand by my initial thoughts after hearing the clips; this album has been made to fulfil her contract with Epic, and she has better stuff in reserve. You only have to listen to 'Garlands' for proof of that.

Her next move, if she has any sense at all, should be to set up her own label a la 'Righteous Babe' and just free herself from the constraints of having to please major-label arseholes. The fanbase is still there, still hoping she can turn things around. She has that support at the moment, but I truly believe another album as bland as The Beekeeper will destroy it forever.

i thought the album cover was bad, didn't know the album is that bad...the photo of her looks dated, the concept is weird (beekeeper?!) does tori even know what beekeepers do? it's just perpetuating her faery bees and flowers new age image, and if her songs do THAT justice, she's going to go downhill....

i've read a review in the paper today that gave the beekeeper not much credit (1 out of 5); it said she was much better when she had personal struggles in contrary to her happy life as a married woman with kids. So the author was hoping she'd get divorced

Have a try though because it's a wonderful track, over 8 minutes long, just Tori and the piano - harks back to the old days, the feeling of things like 'Bells For Her' and 'Icicle'. Lyrically the track is built around the titles of a series of Chagall paintings; the lovers in the song are walking round a gallery looking at them, and the woman is contemplating how some of the themes are echoed in the relationship. I've totally fallen in love with the track, it proves that Tori's still got it when she wants, and the fact that she chose not to include it on the album, but as an extra track on the dvd version, seems very suggestive to me.

Tori did always say her best songs end up as b-sides..why don't she start her own producing and get done with it instead of making all these sacrifices? it's really dishonest to start producing "radio-friendly" tunes for the sake of sales figures, and doesn't she have enough already with two houses in separate countries and a large studio with equipment to boot?

i'm a poor fan..no stina AND tori new albums for me until they land up in the sales bin, which i see in the future for this album...
