Well,I met my girlfriend,Kate,via the AOL dating site.

It was a pretty straight forward search.....i just shoved in the details of the kind of girl i was looking for and location etc,and hey presto,up popped a list of twenty with Kate at the top.

I sent a message and Kate replied almost straight away.....

Over the next week,we exchanged a further two emails,spent a few hours PM-ing, spent a couple of hours chatting on the phone and finally we met.still not having a clue what the other really looked like.......but at our ages that doesn't really matter anyway.

..........and seven months we're still very happy and going strong.

I'd certainly recommend internet dating to anyone who's options of meeting new people in social situations are limited.

Sorry to be so jammy Coral, but I honestly didn't do anything at all - he just walked right up to me and smiled!!

Dom is actually an old face from the past - when my family first moved to England, his family were neighbours and he and my youngest brother became fast friends. He was 6 at the time, I was 11. We knew each other for several years as we grew up, until I left home at 18. It's so bizarre that we've ended up together all these years later - we hadn't seen each other at all for years, until last autumn when I was sitting behind the counter at work, and heard someone call me 'Lizzie'. That's my childhood name, no-one who knows me now would ever call me it. I looked up and there was this very tall, rather grizzled man smiling at me as if he knew me. I got quite a shock when I realised he was little Dominic, all grown up!

Anyway that was all there was to it, really. He literally just walked into my life.

Thanks for starting this thread Whatis; so far i've only been whoring at this forum, so maybe i'll end up not being single afterall as well but i'm open to other suggestions hehe

But if I were single now,I'd have no hesitation in doing something like RobB did,much as I'm a firm believer in serendipity.Lots of my friends got together through various matchmaking agencies.If you can find the agency which narrows the field to your perceived 'type',go for it.

And Coral,you have all the necessary spiritual tools to accept your lot,whatever happens,eh?

It's a tough one isn't it, life is so contrary. My ex-partner has been through the dating agencies thing for about the past year or so and has now given up in total frustration - despite the opportunity to be very specific about the kind of person he's looking for, he simply hasn't had that 'spark' with anyone he's been introduced to. On the other hand, I'd completely given up on the idea of ever being with anyone again and was just going about my everyday life, when in love walks with a smile and a familiar face. I tell you, someone up there has a weird sense of humour.

Well, I can't vote, but just say : we met almost 7 years ago, I was doing sound for her band for the musical day on june 21st 1998, and I said to myself : she's the one.

Then we phoned and met several times during 98, then it stopped for no real reason... then, nothing except some phone calls and letters and emails from time to time. Until last august when I got very personal emails from her [crazy] ; and finally october when we declared each other ... I learned she'd been in love at the same time as me. Can you believe it ?

Well, Coral, don't lose hope, really!
Love will come to you, I am more than sure. And if the girl in your avatar looks anything like you, then I am surprised it has not reached you yet!!
About voting, well, none of these options fit with the situation...But the best thing i would advice (though it was never the case for me) is to go and participate in group activities that you like...
A good way to meet new people!
