well well, I'm just discovering it, so I'm not really sure, but for now, it seems pretty good, even though less "ambiant" than others, more songs orientated, very good ones anyway

Gonna see them at les Eurock?ennes de Belfort this year

Yes, it's kind of catchy, less atmospheric. Maybe I just like it because I'm getting old, and so is he! [crazy]

I'm also enjoying the new one by The Raveonettes, Pretty in Black. Does anyone else like them? This one seems a little less Jesus and Mary Chain, a little more Ronettes. Neat!

I have the first Raveonettes cd ,but after 4 or 5 trax I think 'well its ok but I'd rather listen to the real thing' and slam on the Chain...far superior.Think I'll give the new one a miss,but if their third is Buddy Holly-ish,give us a shout

Stuck on my (whats the cd equivalent of turntable ?)lately is the new Beck album 'GUERO'. A brilliant return to the form of ODELAY and MUTATIONS (his best IMHO)

.After the disappointment of the last two,I'd given up on him ,but a friend forced me to listen and I'm hooked once again.

"gwai-lo"...

Apparently Guero is Puerto Rican for white boy,which he was called in east LA where he grew up.
Gwai=lo --is that something to do with J-Lo ?

That's interesting. There's the very common Mandarin "laowai" which means "old foreigner", but nobody's ever said it has anything to do with blond hair. It's just from the habit of adding "old" to names, as in "I met old Jonesey down the market last week" except in Chinese.

White people's hair does go white with age as well. And it doesn't always start out blond, you know. For that matter, we don't all have blue eyes, either. No, my eyes aren't blue. Look at them, not blue.

Anyway, yes, it sounds like the same word as "guero" to me. There must be some links between Puerto Rico and Hong Kong, and certainly are between Hong Kong and LA. Is the Peuerto Rican link verified? Well, I'm interested, anyway.

I don't know anything about Beck, I'm afraid.

No, I don't play much music the last weeks, far from it, but this evening I went on with that fine jewel that "Smiling & Waving" by Anja Garbarek is, the duet with Robert Wyatt called "The Diver" being its climax, but a song like "And then" with its prominent harp and very poetic lyrics won't be out of place on the last Joanna Newsom, but something like 4 years sooner - Joanna was only 17

Yes that's a great album,Spook.I've been listening to 'Balloon Mood' again lately,and liked it a lot more than before.And it made me wonder-what has she been doing since 'Smiling and Waving'?

It seems like being Anja Garbarek's fan must be more frustrating then being Stina's. There's not one piece of news about her anywhere. And one day she will appear with a new album!

Now playing in tha headphones "RaYDONcONG 2005" by Mahjongg, a band coming from Chicago, or so it seems. Angie discovered them live and they blew her head, or so it seems [l)] , and I'm discovering them through their cd. I had some difficulties to find by way through their huge beatboxes and soundscapes layers, but it worth the trouble for it's rather brilliant here and there. This or that song makes me think of a dirtiest Beck, "Odelay" period, or even Girls Against Boys-going-funky, or even The Beatles for the last track. The sound production is a little messy and their approach is sometimes too openly danceable for my taste. Anyway, a nice discovery.

the morning started with Girls against Boys' You can't fight what you can't see, a groovy noisy record to try to awake, and then a reoccuring tune in my head ("have you forgotten how to love yourself") led me to put The song for a blue guitar from Red House Painters...

no new records these days, my bank account is lower than ever... [:xx]

But creation is at best, so I'm pretty happy, ok you don't care anyway [:o]
