watching some of it on the news it amazed me that people in poor neighborhoods hadn't seen any help; fortunately they were helping out each other with getting people out of flooded houses and off roofs.
It was interesting to hear that dear pres. Bush was finally getting back from vacation on his ranch on the second day after the disaster [:xx]

It's really horrifying to hear and see that people are literally dying in the streets of New Orleans. 
And still no help or food coming. How can the special forces or something like that not come to this convention center and create a safe zone there; they are used to much worse in Iraq aren't they? I hope there will be help coming soon.

I hope there will be help coming soon.I'll be honest... living where I live hurricanes aren't an issue and when I heard that one was due in New Orleans I didn't pay much attention. Now a whole bunch of the gulf coast is just wiped out and I feel shocked and helpless and lucky, lucky, lucky. Just treasuring everyone I love and everything I have.

To hear the stories of people (tourist) returned from NO (after being stuck there for a week) it's really horrible to hear the stories and find out what really happened out there; real shame on the US government for lack of control; what does FEMA actually do???
people arriving on saturday were told to relax and don't worry; that it would pass easily.. on sunday however they were told to go to the superdome, but couldn't leave the city anymore; others were able to stay at their hotel, but were told to leave few days after the hurricane and had to find their way in an abandoned city without any help.. the situation in the superdome became chaotic cause there were hardly any police/army to protect the people and keep order..
This stuff makes me very sad and very angry (at the people responsible) [fire]
And these are just stories of tourists that are now back home (allthough many are still in NO!), so you can imagine how much worse it is for people living in NO and having no place else to go.
I think this shows there's a lack of 'civilization' in the US. any other thoughts on that? don't get me wrong, i love the USA, but not it's current government. [:xx]

From what I hear, the people that lived in the places where Katrina hit had plenty of warning. for those that refused to leave because of material possessions or decided to party instead, i have no pity. For the ones that for some reason couldn't leave on time, the innocent that were harmed, those have my sympathy and compassion. Maybe I'll head down there to help out if i can. I'm just so calloused to all these things, it's part of life, you know? I wouldn't think any different even if it happend to me, and i speak from experience.
The government didn't handle things very well at all. Bush flew his plane over to see the damage. woo. hoo.
