Mew's Jonas Bjerre talks about Stina...

Picked up my free local newspaper today to see the name Stina Nordenstam in it,quite a surprise.

ASCHE is probably my favourite of all Stina's albums.I think it has to do with the very Nordic sound of the production,almost like a pop music sound but with songs,like 'Crime' that are so sad that it's painful to listen to them-painful in the sweetest possible way.'


His other five were 'No.13 baby' by The Pixies,'Take you on a cruise' by Interpol,'My roots are strong and deep' by The Microphones,'Shaker loops' by composer John Adams,and 'One light flashing I love you' by The swirlies.

Mew used Stina on 'Her voice is beyond her years',of course,and when they play that song live,project Stina's image onto the stage.
About the nearest we'll get to seeing her live then.

Before I really got into Stina I saw Mew live opening for The Cardigans and they played that song with Stina projected. It was really nice. But I must say I preferred the projected animal-puppet string-section playing in time with the music. THAT was magical.

I unfortunately missed seeing Mew live a few years back.
Whilst I was listening to a Family History lecture in a quaker house, unbeknown to me,Mew were playing live 50 yards away in the church next door.

It appears that Mew are returning to the Colchester Arts Centre this coming February..........must try and see them this time.
