We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive...." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to Las Vegas. And a voice was screaming: "Holy Jesus! What are these goddamn animals?"
Then it was quiet again. My attorney had taken his shirt off and was pouring beer on his chest, to facilitate the tanning process. "What the hell are you yelling about?" he muttered, staring up at the sun with his eyes closed and covered with wraparound Spanish sunglasses. "Never mind," I said. "It's your turn to drive." I hit the brakes and aimed the Great Red Shark toward the shoulder of the highway. No point mentioning those bats, I thought. The poor bastard will see them soon enough.

No, but funnily enough, I did see both DVDs -- The Cook, The Thief, blah blah blah and Salo -- at the DVD shop in Nantong, and thought about getting them but didn't. This was a few weeks ago, and so would have been before you wrote that.
i've never heard of Harry Partch or anything by him, but it sounds like a neat idea. makes me want to go roam the town and make a book out of the graffitti i find. regretfully, now i have to add memoirs of a geisha too.
seems like the casting director didn't have any imagination, after crouching tiger and hidden dragon, Michelle Yueh and Zhang Ziyi are cast again in teacher-student roles. it would have been lovely if the film didn't try to pander to its target audience. all the dialogue sounds like they have "" at the beginning and ending of each sentence. it feels condescending, to hear someone pronounce each Japanese name in its native accent, then to fall back on English with a contrived Japanese accent, in fact it sounds dreadfully racist. like ancient "yellow-face" films, only now, cast with real asians who are not Japanese, forced to speak the language of their colonial conquerers in a forced accent. It would have been even better to let them all speak Chinese with Japanese subtitles, or would it have?
sure the soundsets and the look of the film was sublime. somebody certainly has money to spend. and if you watch Sayuri dance, you'll be hard to be mistaken, what she danced was certainly not in the book even if it was based on Noh theatre. have to link the spoof to really spoil the whole "Noh" experience for you.

We watched 'Silent Window' over the weekend. Um .... what the hell was Johnny Depp thinking? This has to be one of the poorest films I've ever seen, yet another one to add to the litany of taken-from-Stephen-King-stories-but-ballsed-up-big-time.
It was just so ..... naff. I can't imagine Depp needed the money or the work as he's been incredibly busy the past few years, he must have been drunk or something.

I could say the Eyes wide shut made me really angry I spend the money of the ticket, a nomination goes for A life less ordinary too, will think of more. Lately I've only seen movies I liked
