Why are the two tracks singles so expensive, especially in the UK?!
I was thinking of -maybe- ordering the new Bj?rk single containing what seems to be an very interesting remix of Desired Constellation and a boring "radio edit".
And what's up with this annoying format - two tracks?

yeah, i guess bj?rk is kinda known for allowing her fans to shell out lots of moola for the goodies. just remember that multiple 3" CD box set she had a while back..
as the cost of producing a 2 or 4 track cd is pretty much the same, you'd think that 2 trackers would have died out... or have the chart rules changed again? 20 mins & 4 songs used to be the rule..

Paulr I have to disgree with you.
As one of the many fans who got a say in what songs were featured on the Greatest Hits record I can say that it was totally Bj?rk's decision and not some record company thing. I think she was feeling very nurturing and nostalgic and so she compiled her career ... the Greatest Hits record, the Family Tree box, the Live box and all the countless DVd releases of live performances and documentaries.
As far as the Greatest Hits record i think it's wonderful. It really puts the songs into another context and they work amazingly well together. It's one of the best compilations of an artist's career I have ever seen ... very descriptive to what her music is about ... alienation, empowerment, enthusiasm, nature, lurve, exploration, sexuality, sensuality and so on ...
+ The Family Tree seems very unnecessary at the first glance but after a bit of exploration you get what she's on about. It doesn't have all the b-sides or all her pre-solo or pre-sugarcubes stuff... but it has everything that made her music what it was ... I think she has really managed to compile the songs that first introduced certain concepts or certin experiemnts in sound and feelings ... it's like a Curriculum Vitae of Bj?rk ...
And needless to say the Live Box is just glorious ... like Stina N says ... making records and playing live are two different skills and Bj?rk has a completely different dimension when live ...
She said in an interview that there were three ways of doing things when she was feeling like compiling her career: 1) Like the fans wanted, 2) Like she wanted herself and 3) Like the record company wanted... she opted for the first two. The fans voted for the tracks on the Greatest Hits record and she compiled the Family Tree. The record company wasn't happy about the way she chose ... too expensive to make ... she funds most of her releases herself to a big extent, specially the boxes and the DVD releases.

Maybe true, but for me a "random" selection ( as in single releases) doesn't do it for me personally. I have other favourites like just album cuts, b-sides and stuff like that, i think work better for me. Maybe the choices in greatest hits work together but it doesn't cover by far all the music she made. In other words I could burn my own compliation and call that Greatest Hits too. by the way, Bjork didnt choose the tracks on GH, the people who voted on bjork.com actually did. Bjork made her own GH on family tree, as i remember that right.

I mean that it was her decision to release a Greatest Hits (did you read my entire post?)... when you said that she wasn't the "Greatest Hits kind of artist" I assumed you meant that the compilation was something the record company thought up.
And I know ... I voted. The tracklist ended up almost exactly the way I voted, except I wanted Hyperballad first and All Is Full of Love second ...
But one has to get that the tracks she releases as singles are the ones she wants to "represent" the album. There is an intent ... at least with Bj?rk. So for the Greatest Hits it makes sense to compile those songs that have represented her music through the years ... I think she referred to them as soldiers ... the ones that have gone out to the public to fight for her music.

Yes i read your post. It's only my humble opinion that it doesn't add up anything for me. I didn't deny that it was Bjork's choice to make a GH Cd. I just don't like greatest hits at all in general. Concerning Bj?rk other tracks for me are the greatest hits and not just the "soldiers". Bj?rk might find them important to represent the original album (and probably not only for that reason, i guess they are also for example chosen because the tracks are radiofriendly), but i feel different about that.. hey it's free world isn't it? [angel] So for me no Greatest Hits.
