What does Stina owe us?

I am moved reading this comment again. I guess that it is some sort of a struggle being an independent artist in these times. Maybe it is time that we start focussing on what Stina does give us instead of what she doesn't.

I'm sorry kuhn, I didn't mean to infer that this particular community was populated by obsessives; quite the opposite in fact, everyone seems very reasonable, friendly, fun and intelligent.

But just because Stina isn't a world famous household name doesn't mean that there aren't a few people like that out there who might take things a little too seriously for their own good. I have met one or two - might even have been guilty of it myself at one stage.

Of course, it could be argued that being so withdrawn from/uncommunicative with your fanbase may actually promote this type of behaviour in itself.

I think artists can't win in these situations. Kate Bush was very open, down to earth and communicative in the early years of her career, and got stalked for her trouble. Round about 1983 she began to mutate into the Greta Garbo figure she ultimately became, and it seems to me that tactic actually increased the percentage of lunatics drawn to her myth. Tellingly,Stina did try her best to prevent the closure of CQD but.......!

At least it would seem that Stina does want some form of on-line communication of info between herself and her audience although there's been precious little sign of that these past eighteen months.

The info wasn't actually given as such, just suggested.

But as for the reasons leading up to the closure of CQD then I'm afraid I'm as much in the dark as you are.

OK, this mystery just got stranger. I've always assumed it must have been Stina's wish for the board to be closed, as she seemed the most likely person with the authority to make that decision. There were rumours of a falling out between her and Veronique at the time, I remember.

Now you're saying she tried to prevent it? Well, kudos to her for that - I wish we'd known before now, might have saved some of the ill-feeling in the aftermath of the whole thing.

So who, exactly, made the decision to take our board away from us?

As I understand, it was joint decision between Veronique and one ot two other folk close to her. But Stina herself wasn't apart of that decision making process.

Well, as i remember, it may also have simply to do with the fact that V and her crew may have wanted to move on with their own personal life...As you imagine, running a site like that must have been quite time consuming and i think V got married as well... A wedding plus personal development may be enough to mean the end of the website, don't you think?

Oh of course, yes - developments in one's personal life can certainly make it difficult to maintain the same level of committment to a forum, as most of us know.

However .... if it was only that, it begs the question why Veronique didn't simply offer us the opportunity to take over running the board ourselves? Our tekhedz certainly have the know-how, and we could all have contributed to the financial cost of maintaining the board, though I suspect that wouldn't have been much. Even if that wasn't possible for some reason - I can't think why, but she may have had some legitimate objection - why not just leave the board as an archive? It's still there now, so clearly there is no problem with leaving it up. Why delete all the content, all the posts we'd made over such a long time, all our conversations? I dunno - deleting it all strikes me as an emotional act, something indicative of upset. I could be completely wrong of course, but it's hard to come up with any other logical reason for totally eradicating all the content.
