Oh, and as a classical snob, I don't consider Wagner to be real opera.

Missy is indeed an exception in some songs. I just love Get UR Freak On and Work It. Those tracks are bizarre. 8)

ok, i'll try and look out for that! ravel is not much more than a name to me too (eek! exposing the gaps in my classical music knowledge here! :O [:xx] )

apropos baroque opera, i did recently get a cd of music from purcell (mainly for that rockin' queen mary death march - i surprised myself by learning to play it from ear in a couple of hours... good going for me! :O [crazy] ), which also had an opera on it. unfortunately that didn't do the trick either. i think it must be something to do with the timbre of the voices...

Just to out-obscure you all, there's a kind of opera local to Zhejiang province that I liked on telly. I couldn't find any CDs or DVDs of it. You probably need to go to Zhejiang to see it.
300 klicks gets me to berlin... problem is, will my bank account get me that far [:xx] [crazy] ... and then the price of tickets - at the theatre where i'm working atm they're 'doing' la traviata, and i nearly had a heart attack when i saw the SP on that :O

i heard a bit of chinese opera once and thought it was quite good. now, *tapping away at the keys* are there any ryanair flights to zhejiang going cheap? :D
