News from elfy (part 145)

Ok, I've been posting some poor messages once in a while but haven't been giving much of my news in a long time... Many probably don't care at all but some old friends may actually care here so I decided to post a little message -easily ignored and hopefully excused - to talk about my whereabouts...
As you know, i was in Irkutsk, siberian part of Russia.
Well my contract is finally ending and my wife and I are moving to WUHAN, china!
I found a low paid job and we hope my wife will find one there too.
So we're about to discover China! That's really great but I am worried because that's a huge city (8 millions inhabitants) and i don't have the experience of such pollution and so many people.
I also want to add that i regret very much not writing more on the board and I want to apologize for not giving more news to the people I met here and that i really care about-who gave me SO much and that i should never forget...
That means Dave Soundworld, Sara, Franck, Duncan, Bluesy and all the others...
I am so happy to know that you are doing fine and I really hope to all of you all the best.

I don't think the pollution's so bad in Wuhan. It's worst in the Northern cities. The food's supposed to be better than the Nantong area. No outsiders like the food in Nantong.

Anyway, I'll be in Nanjing next year, so I'll be getting used to the big cities as well. The university I'll be working at seems nice and quiet. My flat last year overlooked the road, and that was very noisy.

Oh, we flew over Irkutsk on the way home. I might have a picture of it.

We love to hear from you whenever you can find time, Elfy - we all understand your circumstances and how life takes over. All of us have had long absences from the several boards at times, for different reasons, but the important thing is we always seem to come back together eventually.

I love the fact that this little group of people continue to check in with each other even after difficult times, in changing circumstances and busy lives. To quote a favourite songwriter of mine, 'there must be something here.' One of these days we WILL have that gathering in real life, we must do it somehow, sometime. Maybe in China.

It's like Puce says: what an adventure. Real cool. And I'm happy to hear your wife is coming along. It's nice to have someone who shares the adventure and changes with you and is a constant factor in your life.

As for the absence: nevermind. We love to hear from you if you have the time. It's like Bluesy says, we all have had our absences. (at the moment Spook, Michael, Angie, PaulR, Kuhn and Dani?l are missing....

Elfy I've been on holiday for a week so I've only just seen your message.That's amazing news.I feel bound to ask:-
Why are you going to China? Is it the job (surely not?) or the experience of ticking off another country on your amazing list? (since I've known you you've been in France,Scandinavia,Russia,Greece...and Dundee

).I don't envy you being among 8 million.8 people is more than enough for me,lol.
Anyway Elfy all the very best.Keep painting your amazing pictures,whatever else you do.And check in here whenever you can.I know I'm always mythering on about the 'good old days',but any message from you is wonderful.It's a privilege to keep in touch with everyone here.

That's part of the fun of it!
Dave, I am going there for the interest in Asia that has been eating me for a long time...Money will be real bad, but hey, let's still enjoy of that poverty before i become a millionaire!

Maybe this is too late now, but...

The Chinese for cybercafe is 网巴. Basically, look for the 网 character. You're supposed to have a card to use them, and I don't know where you get them from, but they'll usually let a bewildered foreigner on for cash.
