Yes, there should be two other films after Dogville, they were planned with Nicole again, but she doesn't want anymore.

He can make all the masterpeieces of the world, but I'm not going to watch again a film of a person who works this way.

Your comment is interesting because in a way, actors are one of the mediums that the director-as artist- uses to create his work. Just the way a painter uses his brush and his colors. Creation is often a painful process. Only paint, brushes and guitars don't usually complain to journalists when they are mistreated [bday] .

Lars did 2 trilogies:
Europa (Elements of crime,Epidemic,Europa) : about Europe
Golden heart (Breaking the waves, The idiots, DITD) : how a woman can sacrifice herself for her love

and started the "Revenge" one (Dogville,Manderlay) : about revenge Manderlay will be about slavery.

The idiots is the only Lars's movie respecting the Dogma rules. Maybe it's an help to watch this movie knowing the context and the rules of Dogma movies...

About Nicole Kidman, she said she will play in the last movie of the revenge trilogy. She was not able to perform in the second movie because she was too busy at this time.

In fact I wasn't inspired to argue my point of view about this movie.
I like it and I really think this movie is really misundestood because people just talk about the porn scene and never about the pain of a mother.

all i hear about this movie (in singapore) is about sex scenes, actors really going for it infront of the camera. it's stuck as a first impression ever since...

I would like to know more about the Dogme. Who are the main film-makers? What rules should a film follow to be considered a 'Dogme' movie?

I know they shoot with hand held cameras and only on location, but that's it.

I finally saw 'The Idiots' when it was shown uncut on Channel 4 here recently as part of a series on censorship.

I must confess it gave me pause. Some might recall we had a bit of a debate about Von Trier and his attitude to women/his actresses on the cqd board, and I stated my opinion at that time based on the movies I'd seen so far - I didn't believe him to be mysoginist in his intentions as a director, but rather shining a light into a nasty little place that most people don't want to look, ie the way society persuades women - and women persuade themselves and each other - that suffering is their 'gift'. My take was that he was trying to show us this in an unflinching way to make us see it for what it is.

I found 'The Idiots' deeply disturbing, not for the fact that a group of people were pretending to be mentally retarded - I actually thought that was inspired and I was genuinely moved by some of the performances and insights - but for the violence shown to some of the female characters, physical, sexual and psychological. This seemed to me 'thrown in' - it didn't seem to have any purpose in the film other than to satisfy some need of the director to see it. And that, as I said in the previous discussion, is what I personally consider mysoginist film-making. Very, very disappointing, and it's made me listen a bit more carefully to those who've been saying all along that he had issues with women.
