An absolutely brilliant film, about a middle aged man (Alan Rickman) driving to meet the mother of his deceased son. His life changes when he gives a lift to a young woman, whom is tragically killed in a car accident. However the film really begins when he decides to visit the woman's mother (Sigourney Weaver), firstly to pay his respects, and secondly to give her the presents her daughter had bought for her just before the accident. He discovers however when he meets her that she is an autistic woman and her capacity to understand is limited. Unable to leave her to struggle on her own, he agrees to stay with her until the funeral, and through her and her neighbour (Carrie Ann Moss), he discoveres more about himself than he's realised before.
This film is an absolute gem, I cannot recommend it more highly.
