Crystal Castles

Today I was listening to the Crystal Castles song "Violent Dreams" and realized that at least part of the lyrics are from Stina's song "A Walk in the Park." It could possibly even be a distorted sample of her original song. It's sort of hard to tell. Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone knows any details about this. Is this a collaboration with Stina or just a case of thievery? Thanks!

I had a listen to the song-I really like it! but I couldn't make out any lyrics much, let alone any from Stina. Also I did a hunt for lyrics to the song but couldn't find any.
They remind me of some of the post-punk bands that were coming up,erm, 30 years ago.

Hmm.
Their Wiki page shows that they have several times been involved in disputes about uncredited samplings.

And in actuality, it IS Stina. I smelt a rat and put it into some of my music software to adjust the pitch. Here's the result-

anyway, i haven't seen the liner notes for the cd, but am hoping that they give Stina credit or asked her permission.

I really like it as a remix. But I do hope that stina gets the two cents that she's deserves as the composer, writer and singer on this track.

Well, hopefully someone here can give Stina a heads up on the matter. I wish no ill will towards Crystal Castles...I really like there music a lot, but I also want Stina to get credit for her contribution to the song. She's my musical hero.

One 'download site' source has 'Violent Dreams' composed by Ethan Kath (producer and member of Crystal Castles) & Stina Nordenstam, so it does seem that Stina is being correctly credited for the sample.

Crystal Castles are playing on 'Later w. Jools Holland' this week.

Just as a reminder, the show is on BBC2 at 11.45pm tomorrow (Friday 28th May) night.

Unfortunately its past my bedtime , i don't have a working vcr and i do need to be up early for work the following day.

So hopefully someone (hello Dave) will watch the show and report back on what songs Crystal Castles play.

I've heard a bit of their stuff and mostly it sounds like shouting over game console music. I don't know, the youth of today.
I might be able to catch it for once, usually I have a gig or something Friday nights, but not tomorrow.

Actually they also featured her in another song from the same album, "Vietnam", and both songs are credited with sampling "I See You Again", which is wrong as it is clearly "A Walk In The Park" sampled on "Violent Dreams", although both credit Stina as co-writer. Personally I prefer "Vietnam".
