Well since there isn't any news on a new album release... why not dig up an old habit and do an album battle. We'll start with MOAC and then can do the other albums - just too keep us busy.

Please post what track you voted off and why you've chosen that particular track.

Although rather spoilt for choice,

I've voted for the title track, if only for those 'orrible keyboards and the fact that its a tuneless dirge.

I voted off He Watches Her From Behind. In my opinion it's the most terrible Stina song ever recorded. I hate the lyrics (too wannabe observing), I hate the melody, I hate the sound of Stina's voice in the song. [:xx]

I doubt that I would like it better though... although it would raise an eyebrow... that's more than the original has achieved so far.

"I'll be cryin' ".... twee and soppy and self-centred,and easily the weakest,musically.
But when all's said and done,this was the first Stina album I heard all through,and so I still love it all to bits.

LOL. i laughed so hard when i read that. My brother, though hardly a Stina fan, loves that song. He mocks it all the time frequently by singing, "He watches he-er behind..."
Aw, great memories!

I like the song alot, but it'd have to come close to my least favorite, if not my very least. I like songs that put an image or story in your head. Either that one or I'll Be would be most disliked... I like the entire album,. so it's hard to choose.

The one i voted for is "I'll be crying for you." Too modern jazz sounding. I like the old old jazz (Dizzy, etc.). The jazz station around here makes me literally sick to my stomach, not sure why...
I hate the music in the song, but i love the lyrics and the way she sings in it. I like what she does with her cute little voice in the song.

'Too modern jazz-sounding' -know what you mean,Tiff,but may I correct your terminology? (since I'm a working jazz musician).
I think you mean slicko 'smooth' jazz (yuck) a la Kenny G etc,which the licks on 'I'll be crying' certainly resemble.'Modern jazz' is an unfortunate catch-all,which actually DOES include 'Dizzy,etc'.It's what was BEFORE Dizzy Gillespie that ain't modern jazz.So properly speaking,'modern jazz' dates from 1945 or so,which is a bit daft these days,but without getting into a long discourse on what 'modernism' as a movement means,we'll leave it for now.It therefore includes all kinds of sub-categories.It's somewhat like describing a song from MOAC as 'popular music'.
A really good example of good 'modern jazz' would be the voicings,piano solo by Anders Persson,and atmosphere of 'His song',which also happens to be my favourite track on the album.

I can't believe that you've voted of I'll Be Crying For You. It has the cutest lyrics like "I wouldn't mind being on your knee". I really like it when Stina sings that with that naughty girly undertone.

I haven't voted it off! It's just my least favourite! Anything by Stina is manna from Heaven,that one's just off a lower cloud.

Dizzy was a bad example i think. 'Slicko smooth jazz' sounds like the terminoligy i was looking for (since it includes Kenny G. whom i hate wiith a passion -jazzwise). How the hell can modern jazz date back to 1945?? that is not at all modern....Maybe comtemporary jazz was what i was thinking of?

that instumental track on isobel campbell's first album is the kind of jazz i like. and the fast trumpet kind (oh, aren't i musically educated:D) I'll find out the name of the track my boyfriend played for me in his ipod. they were awesome.

I love the lyrics of I'll Be, and the cute way she sings it, but somehow in that particular song, the music takes so much out of it for me, it ceases to be a fav.

One of my friends played some Kenny G. once, and frankly I don't know why you call it jazz. It didn't sound much like jazz to me and he never gets mentioned on jazz programmes.

But I can see why you think 1945 seems a bit too recent to count as modern. Just remember that jazz is a young art form, and so its modernistic phase came late. We should be getting into post post-modern by now.

i think the first song isn't the best on the album; allthough it has some good parts, the melody isn't the best and i just like the other songs better. But nevertheless i'll love every song on this album and my opinion may change from time to time

concerning the rest of the album, i love the references to faraway places (space), being alone, walking through the snow and the so many other great lyrics: i'll save my dreams till i get old, i might need them some day

Wasn't the titletrack one of the singles released from the album? How did that track do on the charts in Scandinavia?

I can't agree purely for one reason. I LOVE that album. The first song, the first bass beat...it's like an introduction of what is to come. It blinds me to whether the song's good or not. Know what I mean?

(on a side note, I'm watching videos on Fuse, and realizing there is a great lack of real talent in the world. They're all carbon copies. There's this band called Damone or something, and they're just another band trying to sell music by having a female singer who sounds like everyone else and their mother. Sad
