I'm not sure I buy it, you know. I think she's rationalising her decision to try to go mainstream pop on The Beekeeper because she now recognises it was a ghastly mistake.

Don't we all look back on a certain period and gain certain insights? I guess that's what Tori is doing at the moment. Looking back at the period of the Beekeeper (Scarlet's Walk was a comeback to form imho) and asking herself why she collected these songs together? We try to find a reason for things and that's always found within our own frame of mind. I guess that Tori really believes in this.

And I guess it's also a way of developing: doing things "wrong" and kinda regretting things later on. This will prevent her from making this mistake again.

I guess that the Beekeeper is the opposite of Boys for Pele. On the first she remained too radiofriendly and therefor the music lost the soul that Tori's music always had. The latter was too experimental for it's own good. Both albums contain some beautiful songs but they failed to grab the audience in the album as a total. (this is not fluent English but I can't find the right words for this...

Still, good to know she's trying not to limit herself this time. Her creativity is like a river, a natural force, always moving and tumbling and overflowing its banks.

We'll see what she's up to. It will take a whole lot of Beekeeper-alike albums before I would stop checking out the new stuff she puts out.

I'm glad she caught herself though, cuz if she put out another 'beekeeper' I'm sure that'd pretty much be the end of her career.

That quote gives us all alittle more hope for the next one. Can't wait now.

Some interesting comments beginning to show up on mollyknight.com about the box set and the new album. People she knows have heard both (this is interesting in itself because it indicates the new album must be in a fairly advanced state already ) - apparently 'Zero Point' is generally agreed to be one of her best tracks ever, and the new album is 'not what anyone is expecting.'

Hmm. I'm glad Zero Point is making a good initial impression, this is the song left off TVAB in favour of Datura and according to Tori's comments at the time, is of similar length to that track. Always up for a Tori epic.

Not so sure what to make of the new album comment. I mean, most of us are expecting a return to fierce-Tori on this one, right? So does that mean it's more of the mellow stuff? Time will tell, I guess. I like mellow when she does it as beautifully as on Scarlet's Walk and the Hidden Treasures ep, but I couldn't take another Beekeeper.

So I've just been over to MTF, and it's 'fake tracklist' time there already! A poster by the name of SBJ is currently leading everyone a merry dance with 'insider info' about the new album. It's probably a wind-up, but he/she is a little more convincing than the rest of the crop at the moment. According to him/her, the album is called 'Starcrossed', Epic are 'nervous' about it and Tori has 'had to fight' for it. A string quartet is featured on some tracks, one track is only Matt's drums and Tori's voice. The cellist Vyvienne Long, who works regularly with Damien Rice, appears on the album and may be on the subsequent tour. The album is allegedly going to be released in December, with a promo single going to radio some time in October. The single is called 'Shape of You' and a video is currently in pre-production, with someone called Mark Romanek in the frame to direct it?

No doubt it's just one of the MTF regulars having a laugh - all the information is suspiciously close to what we all want to hear, with a nervous record company, Tori fighting bravely for a challenging record, string quartets ....

Anyway, we'll see.

Hoax.

SBJ brought his merry dance to an end with the classic line that 'all the material on the album has been scrapped and she's started again.' I have to give him kudos for that, it made me laugh out loud.

Current rumour is that the album is called 'The Egoist'. I can hear journalistic knives sharpening already.

It's funny, I just bought a new pair of Sennheiser headphones over the weekend and of course I've been listening to lots of stuff in my collection to check out the difference in sound quality, as you do with new headphones. To my huge surprise, The Beekeeper sounds great on them - not talking about the actual creative quality of the songs, but just the sound of the production. I've always found that album very 'flat' and dull soundwise, but it's suddenly come to life with these new cans. All sorts of detail I couldn't hear before.

If nothing else it gives me an appreciation of what she was attempting to do sonically with that record.

I'm sure a lot of her fans are still pretty angry that she didn't release all of her b-sides. oh well, im sure they will be released in a boxset in the future to get even more of our money (which is probably the reason they didn't release all of them at once, because then they wouldn't have any left to make money on)

Actually the reaction to this boxset among the hardcore fans on the 'net has been really positive - the atforumz crowd seem to be embracing it wholeheartedly, and they're about the most miserable, ungrateful, whining bunch of fans any artist could ever hope to avoid. I think people are genuinely pleased that a career retrospective is finally on its way, she deserves one and clearly a lot of thought has gone into the design. I don't think this has been done for monetary motives - I mean, how much profit can Tori and Rhino Records expect to make from a five disc box set that will only sell to a minority of her fanbase, never mind casual fans?

I suspect the reason they've held back some of the b-sides is so that there are extra tracks to put on the remastered versions of the individual albums, when they eventually come. Which is fair enough by me. I'm looking forward to those. And at the end of the day, neither Tori nor Rhino Records are standing over us with a shotgun forcing us to buy anything.

everythingtori.com is now streaming the box set 'alternate mix' of Precious Things. Seems to have the wow factor for the atforumz crowd, very different in sound quality from the TOAL remixes. I dunno coz the soundcard on my secondhand laptop has decided to go kaput just at the crucial time. [censor]

If anyone here listens to it, let us know your opinion! The site will be streaming a different track each week till the release, culminating with one of the previously unreleased tracks.

I cannot *believe* my [censor] soundcard has gone.

I just read the ginormous thread over on MTF though, it's wonderful to see so much enthusiasm and excitement from some of the most hard-to-please Tori fans in Christendom. Seems as if she's really done a good job with the remixing/remastering on this box set, and the unreleased songs are receiving an overwhelmingly positive reaction so far.

I'm so impatient for 26th September!
